Default FAQ: Blocking PMs and Posts from specific members

If you find yourself in the situation of receiving PMs (Private Messages) on this forum from a member that you do not want to correspond with, you can stop this by using the forum's built-in Ignore List.

The Ignore List is maintained from this section of the User CP, where you can also manage a Buddy List.

The effect of adding someone to your Ignore List is two fold: 1. PMs sent from that member will not reach you, nor will you know that they even tried to send you a PM; and 2. their post contents will be suppressed on the forum.

Now, regarding the posts they make, it's not that you won't know they posted, instead you'll see a stub of their posts that is empty in the place where their text would normally appear. But, there will be a link there that says "View Post", which will allow you to see any post you actually want to read. It's the best of both worlds. You don't normally see their post contents, but you can see it if you want to, on a case by case basis, so you won't miss anything if you think a certain post might have important context within a thread you are reading.

Update: In addition to the use of the "ignore list" described above, a forum software update has added the ability to limit the receipt of private messages to only those members you have specifically added to your "buddy list". That feature is described in this thread. The main difference is that the ignore list blocks PM from specific individuals. The option to "receive PM only from buddies" prevents everyone 'except' those you list from PMing you.
