I am considering adding BOClean onto my Windows XP SP2 machine. On this machine, the following security programs have already been installed. The purpose of this thread is to ensure BOClean indeed works well with the these seucurity proram already installed. I understand it is rare that you may have seucrity programs identical to mine. I would greatly appreciate however if you could kindly confirm if at least one more programs works well with BOClean. Of course, you have more than I do or the same, I would be the luckiest dude in the world. :D

    Security program already installed:
    1. Avast Pro 4.5.549: Particularly concerned if Avast works well with BOClean
    2. Outpost Firewall Pro 2.5.369
    3. Process Guard 3050
    4. GIANT Antispyware 1.0.299
    5. SpywareBlaster 3.2

Looking forward to hearing your stories :)

Thanks for the fast reply. :)

I'd like to clarify why I started this thread...
I understand their order policies and trusted support, but I still want to ensure every program will work well - does not conflict, before I hit the "Buy now" button. I am not sure how easy it is to uninstall BOClean. Have everything ensured in advance saves my time and the time of BOClean support team's...

    Hi concerned807,

I am having no problems running BOClean 4.11 with Outpost Pro 2.5.370, ProcessGuard 3.100, and SpywareBlaster 3.2. BOClean has always uninstalled cleanly for me. Others users will have to comment on Avast and GIANT.

You will not really know whether BOClean is compatible or not on your system until you try it.

Your combination of software and hardware are unique to your machine.

True enough, but if you have trouble I was able to get good help from Kevin. I have heard it takes a little bit longer now a days. I got responses within 24 hours and apoloiges if not.

Boclean is easy to work with. I have uninstalled and reinstalled on several occassions. If you really want it go for it.
    ;)

I don't see how that could be. BOClean 4.11.001 leaves behind the install directory (C:\Program Files\BOClean), the uninstaller file (UNBOC411.EXE), the supporting file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsock32.dlb", and the registry key (HKLM\SOFTWARE\NSClean) on my system. Not very "clean", to me.

My thanks too for the tip, nameless! I would think those traces left over are tolerable to me nevertheless.

Are you sure, "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsock32.dlb" is related to BOClean? I checked the file properties, it is said all about Microsoft

Also if Boc411.exe is used for the install, after the install it is may be OK to delete the install files extracted by the exe installer, under the following Windows directory.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\\Local Settings\Temp
    BOCLEAN.DLL 61 440 2003-08-28 09:21
    PSAPI.DLL 45 136 1999-03-08 08:20
    VDMDBG.DLL 22 800 1999-03-08 08:20
    BOC4UPD.EXE 45 056 2003-08-26 11:41
    BOCEXC.EXE 114 688 2003-08-28 06:57
    BOCLEAN.EXE 146 432 2003-09-02 23:17
    BOCSEC.EXE 33 792 2003-08-20 03:56
    *BOSETUP.EXE 122 368 2003-09-03 03:22
    BOC411.INI 9 2003-08-19 23:02
    BOCLEAN.TXT 13 024 2003-08-19 22:19
    SUPPORT.URL 60 1999-03-08 08:20
    UPDATE.URL 60 1999-03-08 08:20
    BOC411.XVU 157 583 2003-08-27 00:34

Or even better, unrar Boc411.exe, and run BOSETUP.EXE to install.

If Kevin at Privacy Software Corp runs across this thread, please confirm.

    Thanks to all:)

Yes, I'm sure about wsock32.dlb. Yes, it's a Microsoft Winsock file, but I assume it is installed by BOClean as a backup of sorts. I know that BOClean installs it, because I've monitored the install with various utilities.

The remaining files that were left over weren't in my %Temp% directory, but rather under the Windows directory, where they had been installed.

Yes, after installing BOClean, it's safe to clear out anything in your %Temp% directory. (To find out what that is, open a command prompt and submit the command "echo %temp%". You may be surprised how much crap you'll find there.)

Nothing left over is going to do any harm, or cause any sort of conflict. It's more a thing for anal-retentive types like me to worry about. ;)

It is ALWAYS OK to delete the contents of your Temp file. That's what it means (temporary).

It's not OK to delete the contents of your temp folder if an installer is running, or if some application is using some files in there, and is too stupid to lock them (and prevent their deletion). Usually it's OK though. :)

I had not forseen that as a possible scenario. :)

A reboot will normally solve the the latter problem.

As to the original question, BOClean auto updates won't work with PG. You won't get the updates because PG sees the application changing after each update and will ask you permission to allow it each time. If you're not at the computer, you won't get them.

That is a pretty clean uninstall compared to a lot of other software I could mention ;)

BOClean will work with PG if the latter's execution protection feature is disabled. This is a perfect example of why I didn't use that feature, during the brief time I used PG.

BOClean is a clean install to begin with, though.

nameless, are you using anything in PG's place that's comparable?

No one has mentioned the money-back guarantee offered by NCClean. I would think that would go a long way to ease the concerns of the original poster.

Still using BoClean here, still love it, even though Abstrusion Protector slightly complicates BoClean updates. Still I love both apps.

Thanks all for the replies, esp. thanks to nameless and john2g for clarifying some installation issues.

    @nameless:
    1. I did a couple of un/reinstall tests to verify those residues after the uninstall. Howvever, I did not delete "wsock32.dlb" due to my concern that "wsock32.dlb" might be a shared Windows component.
    2. BOClean 411 works fine with Process Guard 3050 so far, with PG Execution Protection enabled. I just needed to add these to PG's Protextion list, bocexc.exe
    boc4upd.exe

@john2g: Yes it was perfectly OK to delete those BOClean install files in the Temp directory upon a completed install which includes a Windows reboot.

For the last install, I used my usual method and everything work is just fine. My method: Extract BOClean411.exe using WinRar and such, and run "BOSETUP.EXE" to install.

As a final note, I bought BOClean at Newegg for $22.99.

Again, thanks all! Again thanks to nameless. I always love to hear from someone who is able to tell me something different. ;)
