SpywareBlaster install issue

Sorry Tom....no advice from me. I just joined to add my voice to this issue. I am getting the exact same error. It actually is happening to Ad-Aware as well. That is, the apps will install but will not run. And the desktop icons are deleted on reboot. Spybot does run, and it cleans a lot of entries. But they come back on reboot.

I have turned off system restore, deleted trash, dumped the internet cache

Not sure if this is related, but I found that Giant Anti-Spyware detects and cleans some malware it calls trojan.small. However, trojan.small reinstalls itself in a matter of seconds and tries to reset the homepage....start downloading stuff...etc.

Tried to remove it with HiJackThis, but it comes back

Ran CWSHredder....but it comes back

Did a complete scan with Symantec Corporate Edition 9.0. The PC did have Berbew.I but that has been cleaned. Kinda sad when the easy issues to deal with are viruses, isn't it?

Other info of interest.....XP Pro, all Windows Updates (except SP2) are in place
