Yes the firewall is basically the same....
But Marcos did mention in another thread that it had been "updated/improved" in V6 so it would protect better against.....something wich I can't remember now. So to get the best and most correct answer it would be good to wait for an reply from Marcos since I can't seem to find that particular post right now ![]()

I think it has some more configuration options and there is some exploit detection added to the IDS. I'm not sure if it's exclusive to v6 or that older versions have it as well through module update.

Hey mantra, yep outpost and comodo, and for that sake online armor is indeed strong firewalls. No doubt about that. But just because I am so curious, and I hope you don't mind that I ask, but is there some, or one special feature(s) that you have hoped to see in this new edition. Personally I would have wished for a development, integration of Eset H.I.P.S. into the firewall, that could be activated as a advanced feature/choice.

And FYI using the RAM is not a bad thing. ESET is this light only because the sigs is loaded into the RAM, wich results in very low CPU and I/O usage. ![]()

Very much agreed. Also, I couldn't tell you the differences between the v5 and v6 firewall, but I can say that where I had some issues configuring the v5 firewall, I have had no issues with the v6 firewall. For anyone that had problems with v5 (or even v4) I recommend trying v6. |

Might also be worth to mention that you can use NOD32 instead of ESS.
And use a firewall of your choice together with it. And AFAIK there's nothing wrong with the firewall in ESS....and no need to fix what's not broke Also, one doesn't buy and use ESETs product because of the firewall alone.

For me, the biggest change in the firewall is detection of various exploits at the network level (can be configured in the IDS setup).

Hello,
HIPS looks at the behavior of programs running in memory while a firewall looks at packets of data broadcasting across the network interface(s). The two are different technologies for preventing different types of threats in different parts of the system, but you can think of the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) functionality in the firewall as a kind of a HIPS for network traffic.
