Default [Hoax] Cell Phone Numbers Go Public This Month

National Do Not Call Registry.

All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

I would advise people to check places like Snopes.com and others anytime they get an "alarming email". Friends, family, and friends and family of friends and family will forward the craziest things to your email. These things can get out of hand very fast if taken at face value.

Related to that, if you ever get weird or spam phone calls, you can check this website to find out who else may have received these calls and what they may be http://800notes.com/.

Not sure about apple, but android users should be able to block these unsolicited calls with apps such as Call & SMS filter. Depending on the app you choose, you can block calls from specific numbers (black list) or accept calls from specific numbers that are listed in your whitelist.

I did this with my home phone as well to cut out telemarketing calls.A hoax perhaps for cell phones but every tom dick and harry was calling our home and its a unlisted number but since I registered it has helped a lot.

I've seen suggestions that adding some bell tones like those popularized by the public pay phone system can be used on answering machine messages at the beginning to terminate unsolicited calls made by those automated call machines. I haven't tested this yet, but it did catch my interest.

Thanks Techwiz for the info will look into it.I also may look into a call blocking device. My phone company has it with my service but only up to 6 numbers can be blocked.

Getting on the DNC list works. When we moved last year we got new phone service and it was obviously a recycled phone number as we were getting calls every day over and over. I registered our number and the calls stopped within a very short time. I was surprised at how well it works. Someone told me the reason it works is because they actually put teeth behind it and the fines levied against violators are very, very high.
