zfactor, since you already had reported your specific issue to Avira, you just have to wait for their response...

I don't know whether you've mentioned it in other posts but is it happening to a specific machine? And if so have you tried Avira on a different one?

This.

I still say this is some sort of driver conflict/issue. Did they ask for logs or anything from your machine?

Aye captain. I just did a fresh install of the suite and that is what mine is reporting as well.

Need to dive into it. Ran a full scan and wow its slower than 2012.

Which means that (as I see it) 2013 official releases are a sort of beta as well.
I do find this situation a bit strange.

Still, as I posted before, I'm sticking with 2012 for the time being.

Installed Avira Internet Security 2013... I am installing Avira after ages. Don't like the way Avira is now... Straight forward got 6 FPs with default medium heuristics.... Missing the golden period 2008-2010 when it was my hot favorite. Anyway I will keep it for a while...

Only thing I don't like so far is it seems the scan times are longer. Anything that can be tweaked to speed it up?

Have not fully looked at all settings yet. I did not install the Mail Guard of Firewall by the way. Paid version of AIS.

Subsequent scans may possibly be faster.

Default Re: Avira 2013

I used to use Avira almost exclusively for a couple of years and recently went back to it after a spell of using MSE.

I can't say I like the direction that Avira is going in. Installation for Avira Pro AV asked me to install toolbars (strike 1), the user interface pushes things like firewall and mobile device protection (strike 2) and on top of this, I have to actively opt out of marketing communications via the tray menu (strike 3).

I uninstalled not long after installing Avira Pro AV 2013.

The way I see it, and some may disagree, is that I paid my money for the product - and if I have paid for it, the product should not be used as a platform to try and sell me more stuff. Toolbars in the installer are a particular no-no. I can understand a free solution having adverts in it for "pro" protection and additional features like the firewall in the Internet Security package, but I don't approve of it happening in a product that I paid for.

That said, Avira seems consistently one of the best out there in terms of detection so it is a shame that they are taking their user experience in this direction. I have since moved to using an alternative product, though I will consider using my Avira license once again if they move away from these practices.

So far so good with the one install I've done for 2013. Was not prompted for any toolbars? Though I did a custom install.

No issues to report as of yet.

(And since your location seems to be "England" I wonder why you are not able to phrase that sentence correctly? )

And very, very lazy you are. Even questions you could answer yourself in 20 seconds via google you like to enter here, that says it all.

But to answer your question (that is if it was a question, I am not sure as I said): no.

Why?

Let me know how future scan go as far as speed is concerned. I don't in fact know that they will be faster, that was just a guess.

AV13 should have the exactly the same scan speed as AV12. The scan engine is developed seperately from the main product and is the same as in AV12.
On-Access has a scan cache, On-Demand has not (yet).

The cache/database will come early/mid next year because the technology is also required to required to open the cloud protection for more usage types and users having access to it.

Hey, but I don't want anyone to complain then that the cache uses up some hard disc space then

Windows has a file cache too, of course. Depending on how much GB RAM you got, it might be able to hold large parts of the scan in memory so it is much faster on follow-up scans.
For better benchmarking, do a reboot before each scan. Also, is this really a good idea to benchmark? The normal users will almost never run an on-demand scan but just have the on-access guarding them. So a more useful test would be to benchmark the impact of the on-access guard on the system (boot-up, file operations, program launching).

I continued to reproduce the sleep + BSOD problem on my company laptop, but all I got was the "update failed" popup (no connection directly after sleep resume).

Does anyone else have the issue that with the Avira suite use of RAM sometimes exceeds 512 MB, while running nothing except Windows XP SP3 and the browser ?

This happens in particular when using Opera. It's probably the cause of occasional system freezes, especially when I keep multiple tabs open.

That system has 512 MB RAM, not one byte more. It just will have to be enough for just browsing the internet.

@Stefan Kurtzhals:

Maybe you or one of your colleagues at Avira could have a look for once at this annoying "feature". I have seen this with v2012 and it isn't solved in (not so called) v2013. No, I am not using Avira anymore, but some relatives of mine do (for now).

After installing either v2012 or v2013 I am almost always able to do a scan that I start here (see screenshot). But if I have rebooted after first installing Avira that won't work again. Doesn't matter which scan I want to try (rootkit or quick scan etc.). If I do it as ADMIN (!) it won't work and only leads to this error message. It scans though if I use non-Admin button.

System is: Win7 Ultimate 32-bit german, UAC on default (normal default Win7 Account), Webroot SecureAnywhere, Emet (for Avira only DEP, not Emet is activ)

This is what pops up instead of scanning. Very, very annoying. So Avira is basically reduced to realtime-access-scanner, on demand doesn't work the way it should.

I gave up a long time ago dealing with Avira "support" forum or Email-Support. So please don't advise me to go there, thanks. This here is your chance to fix that bug, Avira. Otherwise licenses for Avira Suite in my family will not be renewed I can promise you that.
