Recommend me some imaging/backup software

What is everyone using? What would be good free image backup software besides windows?

Question: I want to be able to use the system image to restore windows in the repair console. Does any free offering offer that? Create a system image that windows recognizes and can restore?

Well, if you are using Windows 7 its built-in image backup is the answer!

As long as you are OK restoring to the same hardware, knock yourself out and use the built in Win 7 system image tool.

The poster asked for a free one and I happened to see Paragon on GAOTD. I personally would recommend IFW paid but that is just me.

Macrium Reflect is the only one I'd recommend when it comes to free apps.

Agreed Amit Macrium free I used exclusively until I purchased Terabyte products. I still use it for a quick hot backup, but for cold backups I use Image for Linux. The version of Macrium I still use is 4.2.3775. I never bothered upgrading to v. 5 as 4 does the job, and I use it also on my wifes machine.

Macrium in my opinion, is one of the most reliable 'free' solutions, but I have not tried v. 5

Macrium is slow, compared to the built-in Windows 7 imager or Terabytes products.

for some people this won't matter of course.
you can always take the dog for a walk while you wait.

Very true Jim. I've used Macrium free for a long time until I moved on to Drive Snapshot. I now absolutely love DS. But I would certainly use Macrium if I were to use a free solution.

Using Windows in built image solution... Works nice I must say and it's faster than Macrium.

It is fast because it doesn't compress. It doesn't do a lot of things. Use it only as a last resort. It's better than nothing.

i used it a lot before i tried Terabytes product.
it's fast and never failed on me.

well worth trying it before you try any other free or paid product.

i think it is a lot better than "nothing".

but you are tight, it has few options.

It does the job and you can use a windows install cd to re-image it. that's a plus for me. I'd buy Macrium PRO if it was on special

i always use the windows built in imaging app and it has always worked just fine.
Whats the difference between a image and a back up..?
