DSL Linux 4.11 RC1 Released

DSL Linux 4.11 RC1 was released.

Here is the first release candidate for Damn Small Linux (DSL) 4.11. The changes in this release are a step toward making DSL a friendly alternative for older hardware. I've fixed some bugs, updated some applications, and replaced others. Applications: updated JWM to 2.1.0 (now supports rounding); updated Dillo to 3.0.2 (much improves CSS support); added XChat 1.8.9; added sic 1.1 IRC client; added XCalc-color. Modified desktop functionality: it is now possible to switch between JWM and Fluxbox without shutting down X; added menu items to switch between DFM and xtdesk icon engines or use none at all....

Saw this yesterday. Interesting to see DSL resurrected, it was actually my second Linux distro ever...

I have mixed feelings about it though. It certainly doesn't qualify as a complete desktop, not with a toy browser like Dillo.

That said, I kind of wish something could be done about the absurd growth of modern applications. Look at Firefox 14, it uses up 4 times the hard drive space and probably 10 times the RAM of Firefox 1 (which ran fine on Windows 98 with 64 MB of RAM). And it now supports... The same extensions that it did 8 years ago, and HTML5 movies. Yay.
