Default Media Player?

Which Media Player- Video + Audio do you recommend? I want to use a free solid one.

Best Wishes,

I just use VLC for everything - and have MPC: Home Cinema spare, if VLC is too slow for a HD video. VLC plays nearly everything, and tends to give the best image quality. It does have GPU acceleration, which I believe still needs to be manually enabled.

Also it uses its own codecs so it's not prey to those old codec viruses (media files that would get Windows Media Player to download trojans, saying they were codecs needed to decode the audio/video).

VLC doesn't have the greatest interface for audio, but is fine for me and how I use my computer.

I use Media Player Classic - Home Cinema for all videos. I have VLC as a backup player. Its also my main player for all MKV formats.

I sometimes find that one video runs weird on MPC-HC but runs fine on VLC and visa verse. Until you hit that wall just stick with VLC I guess.

VLC is top notch

But, if you ever wanted to seek the alternative....

UMPlayer is also a great choice.

VLC for Video.
Audacious for music.

Audacious has 2 DSP effects; Crystalizer and Extra Stereo, which really enhance the music without destroying it.

I set Crystalizer to 0.5 and Extra Stereo to 1.5

Nice find, I never heard of Audacious before...I may have to check that one out.

Currently I'm just using Freemake MusicBox as my music player (Streaming Only)

JetAudio is very very good although not free. (They do have a free version which has limited features for music conversion, ripping, video conversion etc. but the player itself works flawlessly)

BS Player - combines the speed and lightness of MPC with advanced options such as multiple playlists and a hideaway media library. Looks nice too
