I got hit by Win32:Sirefef last night, and well, I tried quite a few products to remove it to no avail. MSE actually almost got rid of it but it kept coming up in memory. It even got through FD-ISR. I had to remove FD-ISR and reinstall a new snapshot to get rid of it. Kaspersky was one of the ones I didnt try and wished I had. 6 main ones all failed on cleaning it out.

But you weren't running Sandboxie then, were you?

Cool Re: MRG Flash Tests 2011

Good Evening ! Page 42 ... Re:Vipre...I feel that there are three levels of support at Gfi...at Sunbelt their were two levels of accountability the CEO...Alex Eckleberry...and Sales and Customer Support...and they were very knowledgeable and customer focused. Other than Nick and Larrycore at the Gfi forums the transition too Gfi in my eyes has taken a product that had great potential too a band aid patched debacle. Like you Vipre is in my license garage not to be used again. Sincerely...Securon

i've since bailed on it as well.

And from reading your entries and contributions on VIPRE in the past, I'd say they have lost a dedicated and informed customer/user. Too bad for them.

One of these days I just have to share what tech support wrote back to me when I asked them about VIPRE's Secure File Eraser. Unbelievable, and frightening, at the same time.

I have been a user and beta tester of Vipre since it began, but I am seriously thinking of saying goodbye to it. It just isn't the same company since it got taken over by GFI.

BTW, I have never used the additional utility options that come with Vipre, e.g. Secure File Eraser. I have never ever wanted that in an AV.

I haven't necessarily wanted or needed it either, but since it's there, and there is virtually no info about it, I thought I'd ask. I also happen to need an eraser program since the ones I am trying with SBIE aren't working too well on my W7 box.

Let me ask you, have MRG Flash Test results influenced your thinking about possibly saying goodbye to VIPRE? They haven't for me. VIPRE actually does pretty good in these tests.

I used to use Eraser, but haven't for a long time. I have nothing to delete that is worthy of secure deletion. No harm in asking about it as you say, but I am curious as to what information/advice tech support wrote back to you about Vipre's Secure File Eraser.

MRG's Flash Tests while interesting, have never been a determinant in deciding what to run on my computer.

So, if and when I say goodbye to Vipre, other factors may come into play.

Did anyone find a list of exactly what software is tested? It says just "Panda" for example...

What an apt term...one day I'll have to go through mine and clean up the shelves...I know SuperAntiSpyware Pro is in there somewhere.
Hopefully MBAM won't be joining it anytime soon. (I'm using it solely on-demand presently.)

Hi Securon, You could very well be right about GFI at this time. Are your licenses hanging on nails in the wall in the garage?

Over the 20 "spot checks" of 29th June + 2nd July: -

Tier I [0-2 misses] : Avast; Kaspersky; Emsisoft/Ikarus; Vipre; Bluepoint

Tier II [3-5 misses] : Panda; Symantec; Sourcefire

Tier III [6-8 misses] : Avira; AVG; BitDefender; Eset

Tier IV [9-11 misses] : McAfee; TrendMicro

Tier V [12+ misses] : Microsoft.

Seems roughly right to me.

I have Tier I and II AV's running over various 'puters...and gave up on Tiers III and lower.

But not the only layer of security I run, for sure.

As "spot checks" go not sure the tests can be taken much further than that.

-have a good day
feandur.

Some of your tier III's will be ones or two's when testing concludes.

I like their flash tests although it looks like it is a lot less detailed than before.
