Haven't tried that. You could adapt this (IFW files on a flash drive, or a43 ...)

Boot from a Win7 DVD
On the Install now window, click Repair your computer
After the search completes, click Load Drivers
click OK on Add drivers (but move Add Drivers window to the very edge of your monitor before clicking OK)
plug in your USB flash drive
double click Computer
Navigate to imagew.exe on the flash drive. There will be two imagew files (extensions aren't shown). Imagew.exe will be Application Type. Right click imagew (the Application) and choose Run as administrator.
click Cancel on the "Open" window
click Cancel on the "Add Drivers" window
Close (click the X) "System Recovery Options"
Minimize "Install now"

IFW is now ready to use. You may have to drag the title bar to make it fit the screen better.

BootIt Bare Metal 1.10 was released on July 24, 2012.

Changes:

Updated IFD-GUI versions.

Changed ID when creating partition in free space from 0x80 to next available (from 1 upward).

Added ability to disable Win8 Fast Startup from properties in Partition Work.

Win8's Fast Startup (Windows hibernation in general) causes corruption if a partition visible to it is altered after shutdown (while hibernated).

Improved method used to determine default boot item names for WinNT based OSes.

Changed reactivate to also add a partition to the mbr as required by some new BIOSes.

Other Misc.

mantra,

Sure can. For a partition restore, choose the Free Space on the destination HD as the Restore Location.

Set Active
Restore First Track AUTO
Validates if you desire
Log Results
Resize if desired

(be careful with Set Active. With a SRP and Win7 it is the SRP that is Active, not the Win7)

For an Entire Drive image restore, select the Target HD. (pretty simple)

Scale to Fit if needed or desired
Validates if you desire
Log Results

I have just tried the IFW and unfortunately it can't make hot image of Windows on my system - got freezed at the beginning of creating image.

But the bootCD with IFD works great.I heavily used Clonezilla and Paragon and can say that Terabyte works quicker and creates smaller images. Moreover I took a risk and restored freshly made images to my 2 comps. When I did it with Paragon I had then to reinstall Rollback Rx - it can't work after restoration. But with Terabyte it worked ok.

No any error messages. Just a screen below. I wrote it freezes - I was wrong, actually it waits for something and can be cancelled. Is it possible to fix it?

Actually, PHYLock takes a while to lock the drive (sometimes a long while!), so you need to be patient when using it. Fwiw, you can disable PHYLock (in Backup Settings) and use VSS instead.

Solarlynx,

Something is writing to the HD and PHYLock is waiting for it to finish. Any idea what could be doing that?

I almost always get a lock in 4 seconds.

Brian: On my system (with no other apps open) PHYLock typically takes anywhere from 30 - 75 seconds to 'do its thing' before the actual backup process starts, whereas VSS never takes more than just a few seconds to lock my system.

Solarlynx: Based on the picture you posted, I think the problem is that you have not allowed any wait time for PHYLock to lock the drive (note that the Max Wait Time is 0 minutes)!!! If you reset that value to about 3 minutes you should be good to go.

Thank you all very much for your advices. Here what I did:
1. I just made "Max Wait Time" in "PHYLock Settings" equal 3 minutes. And the hot imaging started.
2. Checked "Disable Usage" in "PHYLock Settings" and enabled "Use VSS When Available" and again imaging started.

So the issue is resolved.

Thank you all.
