I noticed Snapfiles.com has removed avg free version from their list..and emailed to ask why...Seems avg is no longer interested in offering the free version..
we re-classified it as "Shareware". The latest version installs as 30 day trial. It appears that there is no longer a separate "free" version but only the one installer which gives you a 30 day trial along with promotional toolbars, browser modifications etc. The GUI no longer shows "Free version" either. There is an option to "revert to the free version" when you uninstall AVG, but as far as we can see AVG has little interest in offering the free version. They'd like to make people think that they are getting a free product when in fact they install a trial version. |

From their website AVG free AV is still active and well in place.
Links from download.com (Cnet) works fine and latest version is very recent, marked as of 4 May 2012. http://free.avg.com/ww-en/free-antivirus-download http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Vi...=dl&tag=button |

maybe no more free avg from snapfiles point of view. looking at one of other sites
http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Vi...-10320142.html "... On the polite side, AVG does not opt you in to an automatic AVG Internet Security trial. By starting from a null position, you are required to actively choose to install AVG Free or the 30-day trial of AVG Internet Security. .."

Will AVG Linkscanner Free remain "Free"?

Probably the trial was accepted by mistake? Probably you have been confused by the answer in that site? Have you checked yourself? Installed the right file?
![]() So you mean link scanner and not AVG antivirus? Link scanner download (free) its here: http://www.avg.com/eu-en/linkscanner |

There is still AVG free edition. It's just that installer now includes both versions, Free and Paid. And you decide what you want to use during installation itself.
I've been installing AVG yesterday and it was like this.

We're official distributors of AVG products and have a relationship with some of the top guys who are based in the Czech Republic.
I can assure you, AVG Free isn't going anywhere. Indeed, if anything, the next Free version will be even closer to Internet Security than the current version. You could argue that you don't need AVG AV now Free is so good. It will only get better. If anything, AVG might be trying to encourage other download sites to not host AVG Free as, frankly, AVG have an obsession with CNET Download.com (as do most free AV publishers). They all want to be at the top of the Download.com "most downloaded" chart. They are nuts over being number one. AVG, avast and others compete to be number one. So, the more traffic they can drive to Download.com, the more likely they'll be number one. |

It appears that there are multiple variations of the latest AVG available. They offer a Cnet Installer which lets you choose between the Free and Paid version, then there is an "AVG Software Installer" which installs the 30 day trial version (free version offered upon uninstall), which was the one we installed. We now found an offline installer that appears to install the actual free version

Wow, AVG actually opted in for CNET download wrapper.

Yeah, that doesn't exactly excite me. Good to know though that the free version is still a go. Dropping it would be a hell of a hit to the company pretty quick. |

It's just that many people are actually annoyed by CNET because of the wrapper, so they could lose some users. Although I doubt it.

I'm not sure where you got this info. Download.com still serves up AVG's installer (web installer but it's AVG's non the less).

I downloaded it a while ago and thought I saw cnet in the name of the installer. If it's false then I'm sorry with the wrong information.
Damn my eyes, I need an upgrade with my glasses. lol |

They all have cnet attached with original installers. But that's just renamed installer.

I think it's time to close this thread - AVG Free is still there and there's nothing more to say

Or rather rename it to something like AVG free and paid integrated into one installer.
