Disable it, as you said, i feel it's useless.
It does not even have real time protection just On Demand. @_@

Are you sure? I don't know how Windows Defender worked because it's auto-disabled when I installed MSE, But I doubt that it's only on demand. If that's the case, it's stupid.

Windows defender is using real time protection . Personally I have turned windows defender off. Malwarebytes is a much better alternative IMHO.

Turn off on my computer, but I let it run when I set up other computers which are not mine.

I always disable it.It is real time Antimalware.I remember once tessting some malware and WD was running quietly in the back ground. Then all of a sudden it actually caught something.IMO it's like a security guard sleepimg on his or her post.

If I disabled all my defensive real-time/on-demand programs that have never found anything in the past five years, I would have no defenses left! (This includes Emsisoft Free, SAS Free, and about 8 AVs I have used over the years).

I suppose it is possible that WD has been missing and letting in malware like crazy over the past 5 years. If so it is news to me, as this old XP/sp3 system still runs like a top, never having exhibited evidence of infection.

That said, I recently replaced my NOD32/WD combo with MSE/MBAM Pro for resident protection. Still no detections/infections after several months. The only difference I notice is that the latter combo involved a modest one time expense for MBAM Pro, (with free lifetime upgrades) and the former combo a yearly renewal fee for NOD32.

MSE of course includes WD's real-time anti-spyware client, hence my answer that I still use it.

Unless folks are finding that WD isn't protecting their system, and allowing spyware in undetected, I am puzzled at many of the negative comments here.

It's because having Windows Defender turned on with Microsoft Security Essentials is redundant. The signatures used in Windows Defender is also used in MSE.
