ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 unveiled

Upgraded my home AntiVirus 4.2.x.x to the latest 5.0.94.0, Windows 7 64-bit. Went smooth as glass and it was easy and uncomplicated.

This runs great guys. I really hope to see V5.0 Business Edition soon! Keep up the great work!

Hello all, I have used eset since version 3 and I just registered to these forums to mention that ever since I installed version 5 I have noticed a lag time when booting up and noticeably slower browsing experience. As soon as I disable the web access protection things speed right along. Does anyone else notice their web experience speed up if you disable that feature? Never had a problem with version 3 or 4. I have been scanning my PC looking for malware, disk cleaning, removing unused programs etc etc in search of my slowdown, I think I found the culprit!

What about making sure remanants of previous Eset versions are gone? Also did you install 5 as a clean install or over the top of a previous version?

This latest 5 version needs the veil put back on. Can't even see the Notification messaging. Unacceptable.

What are the changes of a Debian/Ubuntu/Linux version of NOD32 Antivirus 5? From what I gather is that the current version 4.0.66 is not (fully) compatible with Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.

Humm... I read the forums months ago when v5 just came out but stayed with v4 due to all the bugs being reported.

I"ve always simply installed over my existing version with no issues....

Seems this v5 is not backwards compatible with the older version well enough to install over the top and not expect issues?... is that true?

At any rate.. are the bugs over riding said benifits?

Should I stay with my v4 that works perfect?

I"m running Win7, 64bit system.

Yeah, windstrings... I've been keeping an eye on this forum, too. I'm worried that with v5, ESET is going the way of Norton in terms of bloat and slow. Haven't seen anything to encourage me otherwise. Not sure what I'll be doing in the future, but I'm still on ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2.40.0 with today's database.

I know it takes a lot of "someones" time to maintain and answer the mirad of questions, but I am concerned that when a valid question or problem is posed, not only does an expert not respond to resolve, but other posters seem to be silent as if they have no solution either??

Maybe its possible I'm the only one with an issue with this?

Is the delay on the business edition because you are also working on a new version of the RAS/RAC? My customers keep asking why I don't upgrade them because the ones using the home edition on their personal systems are already on v5, and it stinks not even being able to give them a target for the new software or reason for the holdup.

The new ESET v5 Business Editions will require new versions of ESET Remote Administrator in order to manage their new features. It is expected they will all go into public beta at the same time.

v4 offers Antivirus and Antispyware. I'm not sure I want it doing "antispyware", but I left it on.

v5 additionally offers...

• Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS)
• Cloud-Enhanced Whitelisting (Cloud-Powered Reputation)
• Removable Media Control
• Antirootkit
• Gamer Mode
• Internet Security Training

Certainly, some of these like Internet Security Training may not affect the runtime performance of the software.

I'm actually planning to try v5 today. Hopefully I can just turn much of this off. In particular, I don't want HIPS, Removable Media Control, or Gamer Mode.

Definitions of bloat can vary, but I'd say things are getting bloated if when a new version is released, my first inclination is to get rid of half the "enhancements." Maybe some of this is exactly what some people want. Still, it seems to me that ESET has started to slip in the AV Comparatives rankings compared to when I first switched to it. Not that it's no longer a top product, but competitors are starting to do better in some tests.

- removable media is an increasing source of malware

- HIPS, if you disable it you disable too the auto-protection so..... let it set to automatic and forget it, auto-protection is very important.

I am like many other users, I came here to voice my concern that ESET is going the way of Norton---fancy commercials while the product suffers.

Can the fancy robot animations and pay your engineers more money to develop a better (bloat-less) product.

After using NOD32 since v3 and v4, I will not be upgrading to v5. After installing it on several end user's systems, I can tell that it is not as fast as it used to be; and it takes MUCH more time to even install.

I know that ESET is in trouble when AVG beats them on a generic test. (see attachment, link provided.)

I regularly sell NOD32 to customers...v5 is not looking very promising. I can't brag that it only takes 30 seconds to install...now we're talking 5 to 10 minutes. I haven't had to uninstall it yet, but we'll see if it is still the 1 minute uninstall too. Also, my sister's computer had v5, and it was disabled by a virus the virus killed her PC. I wonder it that would have happened with v4 ?

Others have mentioned the same thing, upper management would do well to take notice...

Oh, Marcos, come on! You'll never admit it. The story is repeating again. You never admitted when you had some problems (malware and support related) with previous versions, you'll never admit it again.

ESET started going downhill some years ago, it went up for a while and now with v5 ESET is down again. Version 5 is the most buggiest version ESET has ever released. You did not need to release it and you should have kept version 4. But you needed some cash and attention - you paid a 3rd party US company to create you new marketing (new fancy android, new styling).

You did get some attention, but attention alone is nothing. It has been ~6 months since you release version 5 "officially" - it is still as buggy as it was in the first BETA build. I have reported many many bugs to the ESET Slovakian support and guess what - support s**cks. Developers s**cks. ESET support and developers did respond that the bug is known but won't be fixed until business v5 is released (your developers were busy). By the way, ESET business v5 is even buggier. I have reported 6 different bugs. I am wondering why I still work with you, really... and why I waste my time beta testing your "final" products.

Do you know what a finished/final product means ? A product with very small amount of hidden bugs - not many known bugs, not a BETA product to be tested by the masses.
I am silver level reseller with many clients behind and I have tried to upgrade many of them to v5 - *ALL* of them have been revertbed back to v4 or some of them chose another antivirus.

I have spoken to many other resellers worldwide and the problems we see are the same as theirs:
ESET as a company s**cks
ESET lacks good support
ESET lacks development plans and good developers
ESET does not listen to customers and people who send ESET money out.


And , Marcos, I don't care about AV-Comparatives, PC-Mag, PC-World or VirusBulletin. I care about my experiece with real world machines and real world malware, real world problems and situations. I am very upset when we do our best to promote you, but you do nothing after that.

Have a look at the competition - Microsoft, Symantec, AVIRA, Kaspersky - all of them are and have been a lot better than you are as people and as a company.

I fully support noddyfanboy and I recommend him get away of ESET. What a shame is that you cannot fix your version v5 almost 5-6 months after it has been released, and you release even buggier business class product. What a shame you don't have any support or developers. I am sure all other reseller here will confirm my point of view.

This is known by ESET bug which will not be fixed until ESET v5 business is released and fixed, which means not in the next 6 months (at least).

Have you visited ESET's beta test portal at http://beta.eset.com recently? Beta test versions and release candidates for many of ESET's programs, including ESET Endpoint Antivirus, the successor to ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition, have just been released there.
