Post Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 12.0.1 Released

This thread relates to this update. It would seem of late since Google revised their privacy policy, many are following suit.

Post Re: Mozilla Thunderbird 12.0.1 Released

Feedback from elsewhere on the Web
Quote:
I noticed there are more and more debates about the "silent update" of
Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird.
More and more people realize (and object) that Mozilla updates at will,
without wanting to notify users.
Mozilla is claiming to "protect" the users in doing so.

I now follow a thread in mozilla.support.tunderbird (Aut-updates).
Someone is complaining that when he clicked on Help / About / "Check for
updates", an update was executed by Mozilla.
No warning was given and the update was applied without asking
permission, thereby interfering his work.

So the guy is complaining about the strange explanation by Mozilla of
the word : Checking", Mozilla does not tell whether there is an update
or not, but Mozilla says: "Yes, I have un update and I update now".

The latest answer to the complainer is that the "Check for updates"
should only be used when the user knows there is an update and should
not be used when the user does not know there is an update.
The user should follow the news to know when there is an update and not
use the "Check for updates" function for that purpose.
(I hope I tell this the way it was explained.)
