Default RSS 2011 & Avast 7 free conflict

Desktop PC with Windows XP sp3 32b

The combination as the following helped me very much until Avast free 7.
RSS 2011 home with antivirus disabled
Malwarebytes' anti-malware free edition
Avast free antivirus

About a moth or so ago updated Avast to its new version 7.
Problems happened right after the update:
1. Computer shut down unexpectedly & started automatically.
2. Cpmputer started automatically if I shut it down.

Avast suggests that RSS be removed for avoiding the problem.

I do not want to remove RSS from my PC.
Any solutions, Please?

Thank you.

Hi fuquen,
Uninstall both programs, then reinstall RSS completely, then reinstall Avast!. This usually clears any conflicts caused by Avast!

Let me know the results.

Mr. Coldmoon

Bad news.
Uninstalled all RSS & Malwarebytes & Avast.
Installed RSS first, them Malwarebytes, and them Avast.
Did not make a bit of difference.

Any other suggestions, Please?

Thank you!

@fuquen
I think you should...or even you have to...make needed and correct exclusions on "exclusion list". In Avast exclude RSS and all others security apps and please check if these apps are running in Avast-sandbox. In RSS you should do similar exclusion.
In settings is better to fix "ask user" instead of "block automaticaly".

Hi Fuquen,
Please try ichito's suggestions and let me know the results. As RSS is disk level virtualization, allowing another program to attempt to sandbox RSS is most likely the source of the conflict.

Thank you both Mr. Ichito and Mr. Coldmoon.

I do not remember there is such a function or term as "exclusion" in RSS 2011 Home edition. Would you please provide a clue?'

Thank you very much!

Thank you all Mr. Sjudo12 and Mr. Ichito and Mr. Coldmoon

Returnil's Virus Guard is always disabled when both RSS and Avast are installed.
The AV Exclusion List is of the AV function of RSS.
Any exclusion in this list should have no effect since the AV is disabled and RSS AV won't do any scanning.

The following was put into Avast's exclusion list:
C:\Program Files\Retunce\*
Did not work at all.

"Retunce"? Did you mean "Returnil" or did you actually use "Retunce"?

Please try one thing: uninstall Avast!7 only and then check for stability and function of RSS/computer.

Please check your C:\Windows\MINIDUMP folder for any files with the same time and date stamp as when this happened. Do you have any?

Also, check to see if you have the Windows setting to restart automatically after critical stop active. If yes, please disable:

Note: the above is to determine if the unexpected restart is due to a critical stop issue. If it is, I will ask you for some logs so we can take a closer look.

Mr. Coldmoon,

Thank you for spending time for my problems.

1.
" "Retunce"? Did you mean "Returnil" or did you actually use "Retunce"? "
Sorry for the mistyping. It is Returnil.

2.
"Please try one thing: uninstall Avast!7 only and then check for stability and function of RSS/computer."
Yes. I shall do this. And shall resport to you after trying this out for a few days.

3.
"Please check your C:\Windows\MINIDUMP folder for any files with the same time and date stamp as when this happened. Do you have any?"

There are 18 DMP files in the MINIDUMP.
Some of them are of a same date but not the same time.
The ones of a same date are numbered as 12-01 and 12-02.
The time span between them varying:
Example:
Mini040212-01dmp (dated:2012/4/2 10:59)
Mini040212-02dmp (dated:2012/4/2 20:25)
Time span: 9 hours & 26 minutes
Example:
Mini040312-01dmp (dated:2012/4/3 12:21)
Mini040312-02dmp (dated:2012/4/3 13:16)
Time span: 55 minutes

Does this information provide any clue to finging the problem?

Thank you very much!

4.
"Also, check to see if you have the Windows setting to restart automatically after critical stop active."
Yes. It was set to restart automatically.
And now I have had it disabled.

Thank you very much!

Ok, run the tests and check the MINIDUMP folder if you get the unexpected restart to see if the times coincide. If the issue does not happen while Avast! is uninstalled, let me know and will have the team check the dumps you cite for any indication of the issue.

Mr. Coldmoon

The test has been carrying on for one full week.
Everything has been going on smoothly except for one episode, i.e., the computer could not be shut down after browsing various web sites.

There is no change in the MINIDUMP.

Mr. Coldmoon

Here it is.

Desktop PC with Windows XP Pro. sp3 32b.
Intel core2 Quad Q8300 @2.50GHz 2.50GHz
RAM : DDR2 800 3GB
Browser : Google Chrome
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free (scan on demand)
Returnil System Safe 2011 Home (both virus guard & virtual mode enabled)

May 15,Tuesday, from hour 1300 to 1630
Looked through Google search for various types of information relating to PC safety. Did not download anything. But copies a few writings from personal sites and/or blogs, and pasted onto partition G.

The whole system crashed when the PC was shut down by normal procedures.
It stopped at the blue screen with saying COMPUER IS SHUTING DOWN.
I waited for 18 minutes and then made a forcing shut down.

The PC was started normally about 2 hours later.

Thank you, Mr. Coldmoon!
