It appears that SkyDrive beats it for space and price, so, I know my answer. :/

Apparently SkyDrive has 25 GB. Google has 5 GB. I know quite a few people who use SkyDrive (free). I can't see them all changing to Google Drive.

"For a limited time, loyal SkyDrive users can upgrade from 7 GB to 25 GB for free!"

What's the catch?

Catch? They are giving back the space people had previously to those that care enough to claim it. There isn't a catch, if they didn't do that, they'd be a lot of angry folk.

That being said, I would have *rather* they left it the way it was, but that's MS for you.

I will gladly take Microsoft's 25GB vs. Google and their 5GB. Game over.

Seems fair.

installed and using, don't like how it downloads all the data stored in the cloud to the computer even though i didn't enable 'enable offline use'. apart from that, pretty slick

£1.54 for 25GB storage and integration with gmail? yes please

edit- just realized that price is monthly, for me its yearly as i bought the space prior to the revealing of google drive, even so, great price bearing in mind the integration you get with other google services

Why not use both? You can also use a box.net account. LOL.

Mine is ready. Since there's no desktop client for Linux, the experience for me is not much different than using Google Docs.

I'll check it out but 5GB isn't great. If it's got some amazing feature that makes it better than DropBox maybe I'll use it but if it's just file sharing I'll probably use both.

As said above, Google Drive can be integrated with Google services? If it's space you are looking for, then SkyDrive(25GB) or Dropbox(18GB) is the way to go. Or you can use all of them, lol

Got an email overnight to say my Google drive is ready.

It feels very much like Google docs (which i have used on occasion) rebranded with a few sync tools.

Lack of Linux client will be a problem for some.

Cheers, Nick

5 GB is enough for me. I too never thought of going the cloud way because of low net speed but after I tried it, I came to the sad but true conclusion that my typing and thinking abilities are adequate for the net speed I have

One thing I "discovered" is that uploading a Calc spreadsheet (keeping the Conversion to Google Docs format on) with more than one internal sheet is a no-no. The uploading fails without giving a reason.

I have to make separate .ods files, with each file having just the one sheet, and upload those if I want the Conversion to Google Docs format to be successful.

I agree, not so much different than Google docs, I think 5 GB is not too bad, so far my data on Google docs is only 300 MB. It's great to share large files when needed and to backup important documents that are not too private.

I really don't need more than one sheet in a new worksheet. If I need more, I'll add them. So I went into Tools, Options, LibreOffice Calc, Defaults and reduced the default number of sheets in a new document from three to one.

But I hope that Google works on this. If a Google Docs spreadsheet can have several sheets, they should work on converting multi-sheet spreadsheets at the time of upload.

I've just uploaded a multisheet spreadsheet without problem. Was a simple example but it worked.

Could be a bug - report it.

Cheers, Nick.

I'll check your link out but you did convert it to Google Docs as part of the upload?

What exactly was the file you uploaded? .xls, .xlsx, or .ods? And what did you choose at the time of upload? Did you choose Convert to Google Docs?
