I seem to be the only one (so far) who voted for Dogpile. Actually it wasn't really fair or accurate to include it in the choices, since it's not an engine per se, but rather an online service that uses a number of search engines. It's handy, though -- fairly good at weeding out duplicates, and sponsored links are (relatively) clearly marked as such and are separated from "real" hits.

Their list of engines has varied over the years, but has always included Google and Yahoo. I'm not sure whether their including Google subjects one to the same privacy problems as one could face when using Google directly.

I used Dogpile for a while. It's fair to say that some of the other 'engines' on the list are technically aggregators rather than pure search engines per se as well.

i tried a few of them, but went back to Google for convenience.

i like how i can narrow the results to a specified amount of times.
makes it easy to find the new stuff.

i am using qrobe.it now. it's powered by google, bing and ask and doesn't track i saw it in another thread

i sometimes use topsy.com if i'm looking for something a bit different and non-specific. it brings up some good videos and things to read, it's more a social media search.

You peaked my interest however, when entering "free firewalls" into the search box, there is just "No Way" iopus. c om/guides/free-firewall should come in as the 3rd result.

Something fishy there

i have it as first result for qrobe. but, i tried google, bing and ask it comes up first there too!

do you have similar results with google, bing and ask? i know google tries to give more relevant results using cookies or whatever they use.

i have found qrobe better than DDG and startpage so far.

Yesterday, it was nowhere to be found on the google 1st page for me. However, today it's #1 as well Still, there's no way that result should be on the first few pages so my guess is it's a sponsored result.

Anyways, thanks for passing that along!

You guys should definitely try qrobe.it. With the combination of google and bing, it will give you ACCURATE results. It also supports https .
Note: For it to work, scripting and referrers must be enabled.

I'm still experimenting with qrobe.it (https) & I still think that it could be a very good viable alternative to DDG or Start Page. I like its clean no-nonsense homepage.

I use to use Google and then Bing if I wasn't finding what I was searching for using Google. I prefer to use IxQuick now and then use Google or Bing if I can't find what I'm searching for using IxQuick. I primarily use IxQuick just because it's more secure and offers the best privacy available.

Question Re: Which search engine do you normally use?

DuckDuckGo, is it a browser or only a site for searching?

Any links?

just a site:
https://startpage.com/do/search

they actually have 3 sites for search engines:
- Duckduckgo
- Startpage
https://startpage.com/
- Ixquick
https://www.ixquick.com/

try all 3 to see which one you like the best.

it's strange, even when services like startpage promise to offer google results I always get worse results using those alternatives. It seems as if google doesn't tell those proxy services everything...

Honestly I haven't found a single google search proxy service that offers the same quality of results.

Using Startpage at the moment if there is anything better besides google itself tell me (yes I know DuckDuckGo but it doesn't offer searches like hours or days ago)

DuckDuckGo is a search engine:

https://DuckDuckGo.com/

Info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuckDuckGo

I'm not partial to search engines, but I do prefer privacy.
I have DuckDuckGo and Startpage HTTPS set as the two primary FFX search engines.
If I don't find what I want, Google is third on my FFX toolbar list, but
rarely ever need to use it. Note the "settings" button on both DuckDuckGo
and Startpage home pages. You need to save the cookie to keep them.

I know there are other search engines out there, but like 64% of the people in this poll I use Google.

For me it works the best and easiest.
