Now gentlemen like Max Mosley and Ryan Giggs can be assured of privacy. Awesome. No doubt, such people will feel more secure in doing what they want. Now I understand the connection between privacy and security.

To the extent that such censorship is successful, it creates opportunities for Google competitors.

The censorship aka privacy concerns aka security concerns may be prompted by the high and mighty wanting to keep their activities private and secure. Cash for questions, or in this case, cash for legislation, anyone?

I found this interesting: "The politicos noted that Google had confirmed it was possible to develop an algorithm ..."

I think politicians worldwide should just get their fingers out and do what's needed rather than play to the gallery.

As for the repeated claims or statements or whatever that privacy and security are "related", there's always six degrees or the butterfly effect for "relating" just about anything to anything else.
