The problem: I would like to maintain Windows system backups and personal data backups separately.
The (possible) solution: a backup utility that somehow allows me to exclude files. The question: does such a thing exist? Is it even possible? Note that I'm talking about a full system backup utility, which preserves NTFS permissions. (Seeing as I have yet to hear of any archive format that preserves NTFS permissions, and I don't think Volume Shadow Copy can handle this, I suspect the answer is "no"; but I figured it was worth asking.) |

Gullible Jones,
Have you considered having your personal data in a partition separate from the OS? Image the OS in the usual way and backup whatever files you desire in the data partition. I like Second Copy 8 for data backups. You can exclude data from the backup and it can copy NTFS File and Folder security information. |

That is how I currently handle things on Windows. For various reasons it's not quite ideal, but thank you nonetheless.
