Default Another on bites the dust

My last computer has now stopped allowing FDISR to work

10/03/2012 11:23:51 Copying snapshot "Primary Snapshot" to "Pre eSignal 11"
10/03/2012 11:23:53 Starting Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS) for drive C:
10/03/2012 11:24:00 Error - Async operation: Unknown error 0x80042313
10/03/2012 11:24:00 Error - Could not start VSS
10/03/2012 11:24:00 No files copied or deleted; Errors 2; 00:00:09.062

If it was a windows update that caused this I'm sure there would be more help with the issue as others would be familiar with the problem and a solution, so I am assuming it is an avast! update as that is the only other thing that has been updated recently.

Can someone explain how to change from VSS to RSS, will try that before uninstalling the program

Why don't you try completely uninstalling Avast first, and confirm it is the problem.

Had this instruction hidden away in a text doc.....

To change from vss to rss

Go to run, type cmd press ok
Enter first line below, press okay then second line, okay, then reboot

cd \$ISR\$APP\Setup

ISRSetup -install -rss

Thanks Pete for the suggestion, it had occurred to me, but since I am not sure I am prepared to stop using avast! I figured it was of limited use. But in the interests of curiosity, I have just done so. Uninstallation of the current version of avast! cures the problem.

10/03/2012 11:01 0010 FirstDefense-ISR Service [Professional Version 3.20.202] started
10/03/2012 11:01 0084 Pre-boot Check ... OK

Thanks stapp for the info.
