Motion sensor technology?

The main thing that impresses me about the monitor is the ergonomics - tilt, height, swivel and rotate. It is hard to find a monitor these days with height adjustment.

The 178° viewing angle is pretty impressive too.

Just an update.

It looks like an 24" model of the new SA850 series will be released as well.
Wich is good news for those that wants a smaller monitor than a 27", like myself.

The SA850 is listed on the Samsung US website now, with 5 online retailers showing the 27" as "in stock" at approx. $900 US$.

I actually think that the price on the 27" isn't too bad.
Since for example Apples 27" is set at $999. So the Samsung is cheaper .

Though the 24" might suit me better, I need to think about it hmmmm

This PLS panel technology is very interesting!

Edit: I want to clarify that Apples 27" does NOT use the PLS panel. I was just comparing prices between two 27" monitors that's all

Damn these things cost too much. I'm happy using a fully-functional computer for less than that (or anything Apple has to offer).

I've been using 2x Samsung 244Ts, at 1920 x 1200, for several years now, they're still perfect condition but I think they suffer in smooth vertical scrolling with Windows 7. If I recall correctly they were in the $2.2k range each, so $900 seems like a bargain.

Looking at some other (Asus and "budget" Samsungs) 27" monitors at Fry's was a shock, they seemed considerably smaller screen area than the 244T. They were both 1080p and HDMI. The pixel size and clarity was horrible though, much poorer than even the display on this 2-yr-old Samsung NC20 laptop.

hmm, well, I read quite about 1/3 of a very long HardForums thread about the Samsung SA850 monitor (apologies, I don't have the link on this computer but I found it via googling) and as a result I'm quite a bit less enthused about it.

Main issues that concern me is that the screen is apparently overly flex-prone, to the point that it can be quite easily torqued. Don't like the placement of the USB ports on the stand portion rather than on the edge, that seems awkward at best with too much potential for sleeve-catching and lower-back-wrenching disaster in tight quarters. And finally it appears there are considerable backlight bleed issues. Some folks on the thread had replaced theirs 3 times in order to get a satisfactory unit.

That's never funny, hopefully the next Gen will have the backlight bleeding sorted. It's not acceptable to see severe bleeding on a monitor in this price range I think.

most review of the 850 doesn't even talk about contrast ratio...
Actually it seem reviewers have stop talking about contrast ratio since all stupid panel makers make shitty panel with poor contrast..

But that PLS panel win the shitty black crown..

Wish they would have fixed the input lag of S-PVA panels instead of creating another bad contrast technology.

Maybe they are all preparing the step to OLED so that everybody will have a monitor with black so bad that they will all want to pay 1000$ for the OLED monitors they will sell next year or in 2 year..

It's crazy to make us pay so much for cheap product and it's a SCAM. We consumers should wake up once and for all.. they play with us like dolls

The only good thing about this panel is the AG coating and text quality... that's it.. this is not even because of the panel, it's just the stupid coating that all other company are doing wrong
