Last night my computer was infected with the CWS malware. I ran nortons antivirus, as well as several adware removal programs. After performing a virus scan in safe mode the malware appears to have been removed for good. However, I am still a bit concerned, as one of the effects of this program is to disable the ability to download spybot, and I still am unable to download this. I have reinstalled internet explorer, and have tried resetting to th original settings, but none of this has helped. Below I have posted a Hijack this log. Any help you can give will be appreciated.

Hi jmb9999,
Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = file://C:\DOCUME~1\JB\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\JB\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0494D0D1-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL O3 - Toolbar: My &Search Bar - {0494D0D9-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KAZAA] "C:\Program Files\Kazaa Lite K++\kpp.exe" "C:\Program Files\Kazaa Lite K++\KazaaLite.kpp" /SYSTRAY O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kdx] C:\WINDOWS\kdx\KHost.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] C:\Program Files\VVSN\VVSN.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyHunter] C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group\SpyHunter\SpyHunter.exe O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe O16 - DPF: {F54C1137-5E34-4B95-95A5-BA56D4D8D743} (Secure Delivery) - http://www.gamespot.com/KDX/zd/kdx.cab[/quote] Then reboot into safe mode and delete: C:\Program Files\VVSN <= entire folder C:\Program Files\MyWay <= entire folder Then (still in safe mode) use the Disk Cleanup Utility to empty all your Temp folders. Post a new log when you are done, so we can see if everything worked out as planned. Regards, Pieter

I tried what you suggested, except for removing the kazaa file, as I still want to be able to use this program. However, I am still experiencing the problem. Do you have any other suggestions or do you think that this is not worth worrying about?

Hi jmb9999,
Try this: Download Hoster from here: http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip Unzip, install the program and run it. Press *Restore Original Hosts* and press OK* Exit Hoster, and you should now be able to access the sites you need. Fixing these lines: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KAZAA] "C:\Program Files\Kazaa Lite K++\kpp.exe" "C:\Program Files\Kazaa Lite K++\KazaaLite.kpp" /SYSTRAY O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kdx] C:\WINDOWS\kdx\KHost.exe will not remove the program or your ability to start them. It will only stop them from starting automatically every time you boot your computer. Regards, Pieter

That doesn't seem to have worked. This problem is quite strange. I can go to any website, and download any program, except for spybot. Is there anything else worth trying?
Thanks for all your help so far. |

That's odd. The download.com link doesn't work, but the majorgeeks.com one does. Do you know why this would be the case?
Thanks |

Maybe it's because of your download-manager? (DAP)
Not all sites like it when you use one. Regards, Pieter

It's not the download manager, as I am not using one when I try to download from that site. However, none of the downloads from that site seem to work, so maybe is it just something in my browser configuration that is causing the problem?
