Default Local Service account

I noticed as of yesterday that I was unable to open the "Network" icon on my laptop by either double clicking or right clicking the icon. A little googling today gave me more than 1 site that suggested adding the "local service" account to the administrators group. Though this did resolve the issue I am wondering what kind of security hole I have made by doing so, and if anybody has any idea of what alternative method could be used to resolve this issue. Thanks.

-Nevermind. That fix only let me in once anyway. I removed the account from the Administrator group and deleted the WMI Repository and rebooted and all seems to be fine again.
