Question about sandboxie- if I force a program to always run sandboxed will it be able to update? Or do I have to disengage the sandbox protection, update then sandbox again? The programs I'm thinking of always running as sandboxed are my media player and pdf viewer.

If you let the updater run in the sandbox it'll work.

IDK how Avast's works.

So far I haven't had any problems with it. I noticed all the temp files stay in the sandbox, and nothing is goes to the main cache folder. The one downside is the Java icon does not load to notifying its running.

I would like to see it in action against java exploits. But I missed several opportunities to test it in VM Ware as the file is quickly removed.

I personally prefer Comodo for sandboxing Java. It keeps it separate from Chrome instead of leaving them both in the same sandbox. I think because Comodo doesn't stop anything outside of the sandbox from getting in? Not sure.

Either way, in my tests Comodo has done great against Java exploits. Haven't tested Sandboxie...

Cumprimentos do outro lado do Atlântico!

I still do not trust, so that I only have two programs based on it: NIS (Real-Time) and MBAM Pro (On-Demand)

The fact that I have started using a security suite that I always liked the Norton and how I'm doing the internet shopping and online banking, I thought I would have something to "complement/strengthen" my setup. Another thing that made me buy the NIS is that I was tired of running all the time Shadow Defender, and an anti-virus would be far more practical.

The "no trust" in fact what I mean is, do not put much faith in this type of security so I use Sandboxie to complement.

Sandboxie is still the mainstay of my safety!

Sorry for my English!

Cumprimentos para você também!

Well, I am bored and tired of all the registering/downloading/installing/testing/uninstalling of antivirus software. Moreover, it leads nowhere anyway.
ESET it is.

Pretty easy, until installing or scanning.

I like to analyze new unknown downloads via VirusTotal (or Metascan), URLVoid, CIMA, and Valkyrie. If still suspicious, run them in Sandboxie or VM, and maybe even Autoruns. Then there are the Comodo prompts.

Scanning requires a bit of work updating, choosing proper targets, and one core.

If you want to test it download BackTrack 5 and use MetaSploit. There are lots of guides on how to use it. Or use S.E.T (which is automated more or less) and test it that way. You can PM for help if you want.

Not sure about the update frequency, a quick look at the forum and I see 2 updates in the last 5 months. After a day of use, I like it, it's fast and I can use the 3 security extensions I need, plus one for smooth scrolling with the ball on the trackball (couldn't do without that).

HIPS? What HIPS?
Name: OA HIPS deactivated.jpg
Views: 320
Size: 3.2 KB
Now running Privatefirewall and Online Armor on 2 computers without HIPS.
I think I have enough security layers to go it without all the added process monitoring.
Every internet-facing app is sandboxed (with internet & start/run restrictions plus Drop Rights and auto-delete).
VIPRE AV is running real-time, along with MBAM Pro (which has an IP block anyway).
Chrome is quite secure,
and I'm using Norton DNS.
I feel good.

Just backed up my CIS config, uninstalling.

I'll leave my old setup post untouched in case I am too lazy to rewrite it if I ever readd it.
