Just after the last update for Mamutu (1:40 AM, Central time USA) I got a pop up message saying my license was not valid (expires May 2012) then I got another pop up window for a crash report which was submitted. Windows had to be rebooted as many programs and my browser all became unresponsive. I checked Process Explorer and a2service.exe was still running even after the supposed crash.
After reboot Mamutu seemed to restart normally but when I right clicked the systray icon I got another "invalid license" pop up window followed by another crash report.

I've experienced slowdowns and stuff in the past but nothing like this.
I uninstalled Mamutu because of I/O |

Mamutu is using 9.6MB of RAM (barely anything) and has very low disk I/O.
Really light. Haven't had any issues since the update. My license is still working.

Mamutu has worked well except for startup slowdowns. It's lazy to start at windows logon

Yup, I have that too Yanick. The process starts immediately but the GUI won't.

I don't mind it. As long as the program itself is running and protecting me the GUI isn't too important. It gets started eventually.

Same here, I've also submitted various logs. But for me it isn't working before it is really started. The processes are running, but if you do something that would normally cause an alert, it is just allowed, plus you can easily kill mamutu's processes in that time.

I had to uninstall Mamutu because my machine kept locking up. Upon uninstall I seen a Mamutu warning about "Program error: required aframework.dll can not be found. Please go to www.emsisoft.com and download the latest software package."
Think I'll just hope that uninstalling Mamutu solves the problems for now. I believe the license was one of those from the cnet giveaway a few months back.

How is Mamutu with false positives?
That was the main reason why I stopped using A-Squared Free by Emsisoft many years ago, never TPs just FPs. |

I get multiple whitelists throughout the day. You can make it VERY quiet with community-based decisions. I almost never get a popup unless I'm testing malware.

You cannot talk about false positives with a Behaviour Blocker or a HIPS. By the nature of this programs most alerts concern legitim apps. With Mamutu, if you leave it in default settings, you'll have very few pop-ups for safe programs or processes. Only if you set it to Paranoid Mode you'll have more alerts; but even then not many. It's a very good addition to your AV; light and effective. Recomended. |

I left it at default settings for a while and now I've got it on paranoid. I uninstalled Java and got a notification, that was it. Haven't had any other popups outside of malware related ones.

Thanks for your answer (and Hungry Man). I was thinking it was like Threatfire, using behaviour detection to block suspicious processes - rather than a HIPS type application. I don't really want something that I'll have to keep tinkering with. Then again I keep learning new ways to use Sandboxie more usefully - so maybe I like to tinker more than I want to admit ![]() |

That's a good use of 'cloud' computing actually. I should have at least tried Mamutu when there was that free offer! Last edited by RJK3 : August 20th, 2011 at 08:08 AM. |

I have been on both sides of the coin with Mamutu. I have had mamutu work without issues and I have had it show weird behavior and slowdown my laptop when used with other security software.
