Webroot/Prevx Antivirus Beta FAQs

Hello all,
Here are some answers to questions we've received:

1. Will the existing Prevx/Webroot licenses work with this version or will there be a separate system?

We are planning to offer the ability to use both Prevx and Webroot license keys in the new product, this will enable users to migrate to the new product should they wish to.


2. Are the current Prevx products going to be continued under the brand name of Prevx or Webroot? If there are a separate line for future Prevx products is it possible to migrate the current licenses when a final product is released?

We are planning to move forward with Webroot as the brand name for the product(s) as we are now one company with one portfolio of products.


3. There were a lot discussions about issues that were supposed to be fixed in Prevx 4.0, i.e. support for FF 4. What is the current policy regarding the situation? Does the SecureAnywhere Beta have components like SafeOnline?

Yes, the SafeOnline technology used in Prevx 3.0 will be present in the SecureAnywhere version, we have greatly improved its interoperability and have extended its capabilities to not only protect the web browser, but to protect any specified software application.


4. Is it possible to use it alongside Prevx 3.0?

No, as the core technology and features offered are encompassed in the SecureAnywhere software, the Prevx 3.0 software will be upgraded to the Webroot SecureAnywhere beta software once installed.


5. There were a lot of times it was said Prevx 4.0 would have 1/10th size and would use much less resources than the current 3.0 product. Does the same apply to SecureAnywhere Beta?

SecureAnywhere has been streamlined in every way possible and uses 1/10th of the RAM usage (as stated in the original post), a fraction of the CPU/disk utilization, and the installer, which requires no further software downloads, is 1/4th as large (compared to Prevx 3.0 which was 920KB for 32bit + 1030KB for 64bit = 1950KB total vs 478KB for both 32 and 64bit support in SecureAnywhere).


6. Will there be a Mac/Linux version of this?

Yes, we are planning to release a Mac version in the near future. We do not currently have plans for a Linux version at this time.


7. Are there any known conflicts with any product?

Not at present, but we expect some conflicts may arise during the beta program testing as the product garners wider usage. We would greatly appreciate your feedback on items you encounter via our support system, as this will help us resolve any issues prior to official launch.


8. Does the "Send Feedback" button allows the user to directly contact support from the program, or it is opened via browser?

The send feedback button will take you directly to the support web page.


9. Does the firewall offers protections against different network attacks, e.g. port scan etc or is it just a allow/block thing? Does it have any effect on Windows Firewall?

The firewall works alongside, and in addition to, any firewall you currently have installed, including the Windows Firewall. You can limit applications from accessing the network or internet, block individual IP addresses, block specific URLs, individual connections, produce warnings in a granular manner depending on the status of the PC, and much more.


10. And if possible some more screenshots will help much, I would like to see especially the "System Tools" it offers.

We are going to hold off on posting more screenshots at this time. We’ll be providing download / install instructions to those people who have signed up for the beta shortly.

There's still one I'd like to see answered, but I forgot to ask.

In what languages will it be offered? By looking at Webroot website, they seem to provide their products in English, French, Deutsch, Dutch, Japanese, Spanish and Swedish.

Will it be offered in these languages only?

I split off this post I believe the initial plan is English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Polish, and Turkish but I haven't heard the final details on these yet.

 

What OS will be supported?

 

XP SP2+ 32/64bit, 2003, Vista SP0-2 32/64bit, 2008 SP0-2 32/64bit, 7 SP0-1 32/64bit

It's great that the firewall will work alongside others, but still, will there be an AV only version?

I see... Well, I won't mind translating it to my language. Will it be possible? I remember you mentioned something like that in the past.

 

Will those of us who are currently using the Prevx/SafeOnline Free Facebook version still be able to use this free tool once the new Prevx/Webroot product line is released? Will it still be supported and updated? Thanks!

 

As expected the "Prevx" brand will be discontinued. To be honest, I don't have problems with the product being branded as Webroot. However I have a problem with the worst product name I have encountered: SecureAnywhere.

Good to see CPU/disk usage will be lowered. And I absolutely don't care about download/installer size and 1/10th RAM usage of Prevx 3.

That answer does not make me happy at all, it means there are probably System Tools the Wilders members are not going to like (doesn't say anything about other potential users though).

 

Everyone who applied to the beta test will have the change to participate ?

 

How could there possibly be tools that Wilders members won't like ? We have significant tools planned specifically for the technical users here but we just aren't revealing information before the beta starts as it would over complicate the posting with dozens of screenshots that won't be relevant to every user.

 

I tend to partially agree with you. However most Wilders members are heavily "scared" of things like history cleaners etc. Which could be quite easily included since Webroot has them in other products.

However a more important question: how will this all (meaning: Webroot/Prevx, new product, etc.) affect Hitman Pro? Will the engine included in Hitman Pro's cloud change (include Webroot elements)? Or does Webroot not allow you to be in Hitman Pro's cloud. And will we still see the Prevx 4/Webroot + Hitman Pro bundle?

 

I haven't heard anything regarding Hitman Pro but bundling software is generally just up to the reseller to handle.

 

Nobody has asked so far so I am going to, even though I can anticipate the answer.......does this mean no more Prevx tray icon? I am going to miss that little guy, all green and happy in the morning.

Several years ago when I bought SpySweeper, I found out that Webroot would automatically charge your credit card and renew your product. I had to notify them and tell them not to charge my card.

Will Webroot be using this license approach with SecureAnywhere?

 

Is it possible to answer my questions about the product name, and the Prevx offer of guaranteed malware removal at this stage, please Joe?

 

I don't have answers for those yet or licensing based questions (from Kirk Reynolds) but I will let you know if/when those become available during the beta phase.

I've asked this a couple of different times in two different threads, and as of yet no one from Prevx/Webroot has attempted to answer me. I'm not sure if it just gets overlooked, or if you don't have the answer at this point. Or maybe I've overlooked the answer somewhere in all of this. But a reply of some sort would be nice, if you don't mind.

Will those of us who are currently using the Prevx/SafeOnline Free Facebook version still be able to use this free tool once the new Prevx/Webroot product line is released? Will it still be supported and updated?
