    Mint Security Essentials

A security program to protect your PC from malware.
Mint Security Essentials is a small and easy to use application that will help you protect your PC and prevent potential viruses and malware programs from infecting your system. Mint Security Essentials is made with visual basic programming language using an intelligent Heuristic Checksum that can also capture malware with Mix-Tech technology.

This technology allows the detection of malware not known at all, by comparing the structure of the files that are possibly malware. Get Mint Security Essentials and take it for a spin to see what it can actually do for you!

Commit: I found this program on Softpedia, it appears to be only a on-demand scanners using several different AV scanners much like Hitman Pro, but it is completely freeware.

    Download from Softpedia

Does anyone know anything about this program?

I know nothing about it, except that the name would look "off" to many of us careful types.

Yeah... it has a bit of a mint flavor... a bit of "Security Essentials" flavor... and a bit of a HijackThis flavor (the icon)...

ClearCloud blocks every domain hosted in co.cc.

What's with the HijackThis icon? Which engines does it use, and how can it only detect 556 total malware?

I've never understood that. I've seen quite a few small AV companies concentrate on regional malware, and it's irresponsible at best.

I don't know about the icon
But it seems the engine is home made
Yes they have one "virus hunter" listed in their homepage
So all of the virus is also self collected by them
Maybe that's why the numer is tiny

I finally got some time to test this product.
First of all, it is NOT a rogue product. Don't know their homepage is blocked by some security products. They use an online blogger site which might also be used by others for malware. Maybe that might explain why it is getting blocked but it is a false positive. Their homepage is safe.

Second, it is not really for prime time. Its detection is poor and still doesn't have the plugins available for other on-demand scanners.

Third, looks really fake or rogue since they used other well known icons on their program.

Conclusion: Might have potential in the future if they get the plugins working correctly, change some icons and get a larger definition base. Right now it is not worth the time and effort to use this product.

    Thanks.:D
