Default ads before watching online videos..

i have noticed these days that i can no longer watch a video clip or music video without first being forced to watch some stupid ad. why should this be so? why is everything that was once cool, taken, commercialised and generally ~Phrase removed~ up?

please explain

Ad Muncher is great for getting rid of these ads. I've been using it for almost five years now and wouldn't be without it.

hehe, thanks for the advice, but i dont mean ads rendered while a page loads, i mean video advertisements that must be seen before your selected video plays (like ads on tv)

...but I think that's what The Seeker was talking about. Ad Muncher eliminates the video ads.

Exactly. Ad Muncher is able to remove many ads within videos.

really? if so thats quite cool, although i find that admuncher is sometimes overzealous with its blocking, so i cant use it as a regular blocker, but maybe i could here and there on demand when youtubing etc. thanks for the advices!

Not online videos per se, but I've noticed that an increasing number of DVD movies I've purchased from Amazon are starting to include anti-smoking clips among the trailers, and in a couple of case there's even a commercial ad or two. Is the smoking thing a new government requirement? (I'm in Canada and buy from Amazon Canada)

Adblock Plus helps also.

Off-topic posts removed. The topic is "ads running at the start of online videos," so, let's stick to that.

i use opera, so i cant use adblock plus, i do however use fanboy's urlfilter.ini to block ads with opera, also i run opera through proxomitron, which of course has a plentitude of adblocking methods, but i guess these measures dont affect the above mentioned pre-video ads. i wonder if a small ad-tracking hosts file would help

how about the ads on the doors of bathrooms in malls? there's usually a lot of ads on them. on the walls over the urinals, as well. and don't forget the cc-radio stations constantly playing in bathrooms, too.

One thing you have to consider is that even though the ads are a pain in the neck they have to pay for the videos some how. Would you rather that you had to pay to watch them??

And that's exactly why there are ads.
Sites like Hulu aren't in existence to have fun. They're running a business.
