Why Surfcanyon cookie and other google irritants

Hi,

last few days I have noticed that whenever I search for something on Google I get a surfcanyon cookie. Why do I get this? I have WOT add-on in FF (for more than a year) but earlier I never used to get surfcanyon cookie. Any help?

Also whenever I load Opera (without any add ins/widgets) a host of connections go to Google and Google maps. Again the same questions for you. Why and how to prevent.

Surf Canyon has been partnering with WOT for a couple years to deliver "WOT Safe Search": http://techie-buzz.com/internet-tool...n-the-web.html. The Surf Canyon cookie, however, is very recent. It's actually our load balancer and we decided to give it a try to help direct some traffic. We haven't yet decided if we're going to keep it.

If you'd like to block the Surf Canyon cookie (everything will still work fine), then you can follow the "Block cookies for a single site" instructions at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Blocking+cookies. It's very easy to do.

As for your situation with Opera, we'd love to help but we don't have anything to do with that browser and don't know what the issue could be.

Thanks for your reply and your suggestion that has solved the problem. Still I'd be happier if you ever decide to discontinue your cookie.

The second part was not surf canyon specific but a generic query related to Google.

Great. I'm glad to hear that it worked. We're still not completely sure if we're going to keep the cookie, however, for what it's worth it should only contain a single number representing which server you're supposed to use, for load balancing purposes.
