    So that's what they've been waiting for all this time huh? It sure as hell didn't "just happen" to fall on the same day IE9 was given to the masses.

    Hmm, if I did not have a reason to try out IE9, I do now. I do not expect, that Chrome will be 64-bit anytime soon.

    Why thanks to IE9?

    Flash 64bit has been around before IE9 and because of a flaw in the Linux version they pulled the project and now they're back.

    IE has nothing to do with this at least that was the word going around at the time...

    As they recently announced killing off 64bit then suddenly when IE9 comes out they have a 64bit project going that's "optimized for IE9"? If you don't think Microsoft's influence had a hand in it that's your opinion.

    Yes, it works very well... no issues that I could see. You have to keep an eye on the site though, and update manually when they issue new releases.

    IE 9 has much to do with the Adobe Flash Player "Square" project.

    As noted here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/

    "The key new capabilities in the Flash Player "Square" preview are:
    • 64-bit support — Native support for 64-bit operating systems and 64-bit web browsers on Linux, Mac OS, and Windows.
    • Internet Explorer 9 hardware accelerated rendering support — Enhanced support for Internet Explorer 9 Beta. It takes advantage of hardware accelerated graphics in Internet Explorer 9 Beta, utilizing hardware rendering surfaces to improve graphics performance and enable seamless composition."

    It works as expected, the performance is OK, found no special issues with it. But as Kerodo noted, whenever a new build is released it appears that you have to notice it and update manually.

    Which is no big deal considering they have only updated the build once so far :)

    In fact, no other Windows browser got as much security/privacy features as IE 9 Beta.

    So, I would answer "yes, it is" to your question. But obviously, you need to be sure that the system is clean of infections as well.

    Well for starters it seems like none of you are Unix/Linux users because if you were you'd know that Adobe killed the 64bit project due to security issues and then later opened it up under the new project name.

    This is what I'm talking about;
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/06/11/64_bit_flash_for_linux_dead/

    http://arstechnica.com/open-source/...linux-dropped-as-adobe-preps-next-version.ars

    At the time they closed off Linux support everything was halted.

    Linux has as much to do with this as IE... ;)

    So no this statement is wrong about thanking IE9, flash player went 64bit because of cross-platform reasons, not just IE, LOL....

    Sheesh Windows users, you think it's all about you! LOL...

    Thanks to Cross-Platform issues being resolved we are now getting 64bit Flash, if you want to be technically correct.
    :)

    We are talking about the Adobe Flash Player Square preview. Actually, you stated that it has nothing to do with IE 9 in your previous post.

    But reality is different: the Square preview has much to do with IE 9, even one of its two new features is exclusive of IE 9:
    • Internet Explorer 9 hardware accelerated rendering support — Enhanced support for Internet Explorer 9 Beta. It takes advantage of hardware accelerated graphics in Internet Explorer 9 Beta, utilizing hardware rendering surfaces to improve graphics performance and enable seamless composition."
    The other new feature, 64 bit support, of course, is not exclusive of IE 9:
    • 64-bit support — Native support for 64-bit operating systems and 64-bit web browsers on Linux, Mac OS, and Windows.

    I was talking about the title of the post;

    Flash player goes 64bit thanks to IE9

    ---> THANKS to IE9 ;)

    That's all...
