How To Disable IPv6 In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
You may be interested in disabling IPv6 if you use VPN and BitTorrent because there is a security problem as discussed in the thread Huge Security Flaw Makes VPNs Useless for BitTorrent in the Privacy Software subforum. -- Tom |

When no ipv6 routers are present, its automatically disabled and therefore this is not necessary anymore, also you can block ipv6 via firewall.

In Fedora 13 I edited the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file and added the following entries:
#blacklist ipv6 blacklist ipv6 Reboot and then check with: ip a | grep inet6 no output means ipv6 is successfully blocked Jim |

In Ubuntu 10.04 LTS ...
select System / Preferences / Network Connections select Wired tab select Auto Ethernet click Edit select IPv6 Settings tab set Method to Ignore |
