Default NOD32 setup.xml file is damage or missing

NOD32 setup.xml file is damage or missing.. I have tried to get rid of this program. I keep getting the same mesage "NOD32 setup.xml file is damage or missing". I am not to saavy on computers, but I wrote down the info about this program if that will help.
NOD32 Antivirous system
1998-2006
ESET.spol.sr.0
size: 44.90 MB
File Version : 2.70.39.0

I tried a free new version of the program, thinking if I remove/uninstall it; the new program would remove at the same time the already in my system. They are NOD32 anti. System. But nothing. the new version uninstalled, gone; however, the old one istill in my computer.

It is annoying. no idea what to do.

thnks,
Alex
