    One question...

Is there anyway to prevent Hitman Pro from creating a Start menu folder, Desktop shortcut and startup entries when I open Hitman Pro? o_O

Our XP desktop is hardly ever turned on so I forgot that it is having the same problem as our Windows 7 laptop.

    @CiX

You can use the command-line "/noinstall
    Example:
    HitmanPro35.exe /scan /noinstall".

    See Command-Line Reference: http://www.surfright.nl/nl/downloads/business

That is an old detection in the days Avira was still active in our cloud. Avira is no longer used on new files.

The listed file is a TMP file. The dropper might be new but it dropped an old TMP file. So the dropper is zero day. The payload isn't.

In my opinion you shouldn't believe all the websites saying it is zero-day malware, some may be, most ain't. And 95% are just little changes to already existing malware.

Do you plan to replace Avira with something else or renew it?

Hitman Pro is a freeware piece of software that controls both an inbuilt antivirus and a handful of other popular antivirus and anti-malware products such as Spybot, Ad-Aware, NOD32 etc.I have used Prevx CSI Free, Trend Micro CWShredder, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE

Like many others you are still living in the past robinson.

Hitman Pro 1 and 2 was a hugely popular program in the Netherlands some years ago. It actually wasn't a real program, it was more a script to run several scanners in an automatic way: Spyware Doctor, Spybot-S&D, CWShredder, Ad-Aware, Ewido, SpySweeper, SpywareBlaster, McAfee Stinger, ESET NOD32 and maybe some more. Due to all that scanners it took really long to scan (although in the end you had some options to setup/choose from) and it did totally depend on that programs, so there was not a way to take care of false positives. I think if you look at the security setup of average computer users in the Netherlands in 2005/2006 they were all using the following setup: Windows XP, AVG Free 7.5, Hitman Pro 2.

Hitman Pro 3 was a total new program which introduced the behavioral scan with several partners in the cloud. Hitman Pro 3.5 was a total rewrite of Hitman Pro 3 with a lot of improvements and it ended up how it is today.
It is now freeware/shareware: scanning is free, and there is a 30-day trial (which you can activate at any moment you want) for removal.

    More on my issue:

All settings will remember their state except two:

'Scan computer daily during startup' and the scan method. Both always default to on and quick scan, respectively, no matter what they or anything else is set to.

I wish Hitman Pro was a real-time scanner. Would be epic. But I suppose that's what Immunet 2.0 is going for.

BitDefender is already in GData ain't it?
Direct connection to Panda Cloud (meh false positives?) seems the most logical option for me. Just like they have a connection with Prevx.

My bet's on a Symantec product.

Don't think so, Symantec has never licensed their engine/signature/program, just like McAfee, so of the BIG vendors I think Panda and Kaspersky are the biggest contenders.

I doubt MBAM though, since they aren't really a "BIG" player :)
