Default Backup over a network

I want to backup my wife's laptop to my desktop computer over our network using Backup & Recovery 10 Free Edition . The problem is that the times when both computers are on the network simultaneously is inconsistent, only an hour or two perhaps every second day.

I can't depend on her remembering to do the backup manually, so I am wondering if there is way to have a remote command come from my desktop computer (either automatically, or I can initiate the command manually) to tell her laptop to start the backup.

I know I can have her laptop check every hour to try to backup, but that seems like a waste of resources on her already overloaded laptop.

Or is there another way to accomplish what I need?

Thanks
