Hello
Hopefully I'm posting in the correct forum. I tried ESET on line scan yesterday and it took so long I canceled it. Today I tried it again on a different computer, even slower. I can watch the file names being scanned and the file extension is related to how long the scan takes. This is understandable. Examples: .exe files, up to 10 seconds, or more. .chm files, up to 30 seconds. .jar files, minutes each - really. For example RT.JAR scanned in about 2 minutes on computer #1. On computer #2 RT.JAR scanned in 4 to 5 Minutes. That is crazy. :-( Am I doing something wrong or should I be looking at different AV software? Does the installed version run any faster? Disappointed, Fungus |

I dont know if the NOD32 program scans faster then the online scanner but the online scan might be slow(er) cause you have a real-time program running which also scans the files which the online-scanner is scanning. Ofcours you can install the trial version and see for yourself.
You might want to try the 'Release candidate' online scanner @ http://beta.eset.com/eos - This one scans pretty fast on pc's I used it for. Works like a charm. Last edited by Brambb : May 9th, 2009 at 06:06 PM. |

In my experience, the online scanner is much slower than the normal one...
I had a neighbor use the online scanner once... and it appeared to take twice as long, but did the trick... Regards - -Bob |

At least 2x slow, maybe 5x slow. My C drive holds only 18GB and the on-line scan took 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete.
The file, RT.JAR, scanned for 4 to 5 minutes all by itself. At that point it suggested that I would want to jump at the chance to purchase it. I don't think so. Thanks for the response. Fungus |

I am not affiliated with ESET, but I do like their AV product... It sounds like something else was running heavily against the hard drive at the same time the online scan was... Regards - -Bob |

Hello,
Is another antivirus program resident on the system? If so, then it is likely that all scan operations are performed twice as each program scans the files. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
