Default Question about "General Cleaning Instructions" sticky

I printed out the instructions in the General Cleaning Instructions sticky and downloaded all of the programs that I could find.

Ewido is now part of another company and so is CWShredder. I am not sure that these company's products will do the same thing as the file that is mentioned in the article.

Are these new products equivalent to the Ewido and CWShredder?

Thanks

Ewido was bought by AVG.
Malware Bytes AntiMalware (MBAM) SuperAntispyware (SAS) and A-Squared are free scanners and would be suitable replacements.

I'll have to check on CWShredder.

CWShredder was bought by Trend Micro and is still available as freeware.
It's version 2.19 from Nov. 2005. Apparently the latest version.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for excellent instructions with the sticky.

Ewido was listed above as anti-trojan, along with Trojan Hunter.

While the products you mention above may be the three most capable general all-purpose scans today, and very possibly superior to anything in the list for that purpose (I think the closest would be Spybot and Stinger). With the normal caveat about false positives with such scans.

Should those three scans get their own category section in the list in the next update ? Or maybe get included with the Spybot section as and/or ?

Thanks.

It's true that Ewido was listed with Trojan Hunter.
But some of these programs listed as anti-trojan programs are gone.
The list of freeware anti-trojans is meager. See the link below.

http://freeware.wikia.com/wiki/Lists...are_antitrojan

Anti-spyware/malware programs have basically taken their place since the time that list was originally compliled.
