Remove ads in IE8 browser with Privoxy free. It's easy and works well. If you like IE but do not use it because of ads the default config file in Privoxy works well. Also, no installation is required. Here is the link.
http://www.privoxy.org/ Download the privoxy_3.0.12.zip file. Unzip it to a subdirectory. Click on the privoxy.exe file and the program starts. Default settings work great. In IE8 go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, Advanced. In the HTTP window type 127.0.0.1 and in the Port window type 8118. Click OK. That's it. Now, if you want Privoxy to start when Windows XP or Vista (32 or 64) starts, create a new short cut on the desktop. Then drag it to Startup under All Programs. That's it. Privoxy is a great alternative to Admuncher (awesome program but not free) if you are looking for a good program that is free to to remove ads from IE8. Hope this is helpful to anyone looking for a way to remove ads from IE8. |

Privoxy installation allows starting at boot as an option whereas the portable versions doesn't (although I suspect it can be done manually).
It works OK although, sometimes it lags for no reason. |

Thanks for the tip, but blocking ADs with IE7Pro seems to be better, proxy ussually slows down browsing, as stated above as well.
