Default EAV 3.0 Tutorial - 15 Jan 2008

Welcome to the “EAV 3.0 Tutorial”.

This thread aims to give you more of an understanding of EAV (ESET Antivirus) 3.0, its installation, setup, and use.

As EAV is an ever changing product, you may find this thread has the odd setting disjointed from where it logically ought to appear. This is just part and parcel of a continually improving product. Furthermore, when we learn new things about NOD32, they will also be added to the end of this thread. Hence, it remains a “Work in Progress”.

If you become lost or are unsure of anything, don’t hesitate to start a new thread with your question in the main EAV 3.0 Forum.

All the best.

Cheers

Blackspear

If you would like to simply skip the Tutorial and IMPORT these settings into EAV CLICK HERE and follow the instructions.

If you already have EAV installed, then please go straight to Page 2, post number 28 and begin the Tutorial from there.

1. Please do NOT try to enter your ESET Username and Password at Wilders Security; this is for members’ access ONLY, and you are more than likely not a member of Wilders Security.

2. PLEASE NOTE: There are 6 pages to this thread; THIS PAGE, as well as Page 2 ... Page 3 ... Page 4 ... Page 5 ... Page 6 ... All pages can be located by clicking on the links at the top and bottom right hand corners of each page (as per the following screenshot/picture). Each Page has 25 Posts (with Pictures) in it.

1. Scroll down to "Home Users".

2. Choose the version appropriate for your computers operating system and click on it: “ESET NOD32 3.0 Antivirus for Win XP/2000/Vista (32-bit)”. The average user has a 32-bit Windows Operating System; see HERE for further information on how to determine if your system is 32 or 64-bit.

3. This is the "version number"; when this screenshot was made the current available version was 3.0.621

4. Click on "Download".

ENTERING YOUR USERNAME and PASSWORD

You will receive your Username and Password by email from an ESET Reseller, ESET Distributor or from ESET themselves; this is totally dependent upon how you purchased your license for EAV.

Do NOT try to use a Username and Password that you have created, ONLY a Username and Password provided by ESET will work.

The following instructions are for using the Username and Password provided by ESET to download EAV from the Internet, as well as for entering each into the "EAV Control Centre".

Entering a Username and/or Password into a POPUP BOX that advises of an incorrect Username or Password will FAIL to be remembered.

There is ONLY one area to enter such information, and that is the EAV Control Centre> Update> Username and Password setup area.

If you receive a notice about your settings being "Password Protected", you will need to address this FIRST or you will NOT be able to enter a Username and Password. See HERE for further information on addressing this.

The next step is the tricky part, you need to be VERY precise when "highlighting" your Username and then Password.

1. Click next to the last number in your "Username" and while holding down your left click button, drag the curser to the beginning of your Username, to the left side of the "A". When your Username is highlighted.

Right click on the highlight and then left click on "Copy".

ALTERNATIVELY hold down the "Control" key on your keyboard and then at the same time, press "C" on your keyboard. This will copy what you have highlighted into the computers memory.

Please do NOT try to "type" in your Username and Password, as most people will fail; this is because certain letters and numbers are easily mixed up.

As an example only this Password: 01oliwvvx0 could be entered as:

o as in oscar
l as in lima
0 as in the number
1 as in the number
l as in lima
w as in whiskey
w as in whiskey
x as in x-ray
o as in oscar

and this is only but one of many many combinations that could be made up for this particular password, all would be incorrect, the only password that would be accepted is the correct password:

0 as in the number
1 as in the number
o as in oscar
l as in lima
i as in india
w as in whiskey
v as in victor
v as in victor
x as in x-ray
0 as in the number

As an example ONLY this Username EAV-12345678 works, the following alterations have been made and will NOT work:

eav-12345678
Eav-12345678
EAV12345678
EAV - 12345678

1. This is VERY important, as per the screenshot, MAKE SURE there isn't a "SPACE" preceding or after your Username when you have it highlighted. This is because your Username is 12 characters long, if there is a space it becomes 13 characters long, and then it is wrong.

If you enter your Username and or Password incorrectly then you will see the next screenshot displayed. This will also be seen with an expired license.

Repeat the exact same steps that you have just completed above for your "Password" that was provided by ESET.

Click next to the last character in your "Password" and while holding down your left click button, drag the curser to the beginning of your Password, to the left side of the first "Character".

This is VERY important, as per the original screenshot, MAKE SURE there isn't a "SPACE" preceding or after your Password when it has been highlighted. This is because your Password is 10 characters long, if there is a space it becomes 11 characters long, and then it is wrong.

When your Password is highlighted.

Right click on the highlight and then left click on "Copy".

ALTERNATIVELY hold down the "Control" key on your keyboard and at the same time press "C" on your keyboard.

1. Right click in the "Password" field and then left click on "Paste".

ALTERNATIVELY hold down the "Control" key on your keyboard and at the same time press "V" on your keyboard.

2. Click on "OK".

NORTON REMOVAL

Before installing EAV, if you have had NORTON on your system at any point in time, please download and run the NORTON REMOVAL TOOL BEFORE proceeding any further.

If you have another antivirus program on your computer please REMOVE IT through the Windows Control Panel: Start> Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs, BEFORE proceeding any further.

1. Double click on the EAV installation file on your “Desktop”.

NOTE: If you have a multi user license you can copy this installation file to your other computers instead of downloading it on each machine.

1. Place in the Username (UN) from your Reseller/Distributor or ESET email.

2. Place in the Password (PW) from your Reseller/Distributor or ESET email.

ONLY a Username and Password provided to you by ESET will work. These are NOT personalized entries created by you; you can NOT create your own UN and PW.

See HERE for instructions on how to enter a Username and Password correctly.

3. Click on “Next”.

THREATSENSE

You have purchased EAV for its ability to protect your computer, let’s help ESET continue in its efforts to do so by leaving “Enable ThreatSense.NET Early Warning System” ticked.

Threatsense - what information is sent? Answer and Answer

1. Click on “Advanced Setup”.

1 to 2. Make a choice; I would hope that you participate and as such choose the lower or middle option.

3. As the information sent is anonymous, you may like to add your email address in “Contact email (optional)”, in case ESET would like to ask/advise you further about what EAV is sending.

4. Click on “OK”.
