This is my 1st post. I run xpsp2 and didnt get the MS cursor patch on time.
My kids go to sites with cursor changes. Now my pc wireless mouse cursor
will open any ico n it touches. Also my keyboard will not always work as it should. I suspect a virus or malware. Help.
    I run CA virus and pest patrol(and firewall). I have:run Spysweeper,Search and Deystroy,AdAware,AVG rootkit,Windows defender,Asquared free remover,check disk,PC pitstop virus scan,and have found nothing.
I even have trouble logging in. It also does it in safe mode.
It has quit for a short time only to begin again.
    Suggestions?

    thanks

    Hello,

    Try these things:

    1. Try System Restore before your kids played with the games. If that works, you still might want to try the below steps.

    2. Be aware that your machine might suffer! It is possible that it is infected and the cleaning could render irrecoverable changes. Therefore, if you are not sure, don't do anything hasty.

    3. First, try to backup your personal data to CD/DVDs, second partition, second hard disk, other computer, USB, email, or any other way you find most suitable. Second, fully update your security programs

    4. Download the following programs and run them in normal mode.

    ATF Cleaner

    CleanUp!
    http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/download.html

    5. Disable / Enable System Restore.

    6. Download and install AVG AS and SAS (linked above).

    7. Run complete scan with AVG AS and SAS in normal mode. If you find anything, repeat scans until nothing is found. Reboot. Scan again the same way.

    8. Run complete scan with these in safe mode. If you find anything, repeat scans until nothing is found. Reboot. Scan again the same way.

    9. Using the software you own, run full scans in normal, then safe mode if possible as above. I would not use Windows Defender or PC pitstop, but it's up to you.

    10. Finished with these scans, try some of the online anti-virus scans. This site has a lot of links to online scans, try at least 3-4:

I would recommend you try Kaspersky, BitDefender, Panda, and F-Prot.

Try all these tell me how it goes. Do not skip steps. If in doubt, ask questions. Try not to connect to the Internet with this machine, try using an alternative machine if possible.

    What browser do you use?

    Mrk

    Hi,
So far I have not been able to fix this. Am I barking up the wrong tree?
It acts infected.......slow opening apps, cursor opens anything it touches,
keyboard wont always type right when i log in, and sometimes for a short time,it seems all norma l again only to return.
Should i consider reformatting the hard drive and just start over?
I really dont wont to take it to a shop but will if needed.
So far i have found some tracking cookies and a few adware things and deleted them. The scans take forever as I have many files.
    still trying........

    well,
After many hours I gave up. I chatted with atech at a pc shop and he said
to reformat and see if the problem is gone. If not it may be a motherboard problem. I did it and still have the problem so Im thinking its hardware related to input devices(mouse, keyboard). I will probably use this as an excuse to get a new one.
    thanks for the ideas

    Well.............
It pays to be careful. I was at Circuit City talking to a pc guy about my story and he said before i buy why not bring it in and let hime just hook it up and see. No diagnostics just see. I did and it worked fine!!!
He suggested I try a new mouse and keyboard set. I went home and insaleed a usb set and after some initial trouble it started working fine.
I had to do 3 years of xp updates and reinstall some stuff but i am up and running.
He could have pushed me to buy and i was looking hard at a 650 dollar hp.
Thankfully, he was not into just making a sell.
I have never had this issue before and I may never know what it really was
    but thanks.
