    Back to Dr.Web, NAV 2007 is nice and I enjoyed playing with it for a couple of days, a must try for anyone who has not tried a Norton product in several years, because of the way it use to be, this certainly does not apply now...

    I just downloaded the NOD32 2.7 beta, its a great AV and it keeps on getting better. :cool:

    :p Money is an issue for some! And some of us do not want to put the money into aging systems when Vista is right around the corner and a complete upgrade will soon be on the way.

    There are no AVs being used on 'any' of my PCs [5 *nix boxes and 1 Windows Test Box]

    Screen Capture [Below] of the Windows Box [laptop] I'm using currently ... If I were to use an AV, I can assure you it'd be a freebie. ;)

    omg, can i at least suggest Dr.Web Cure It, its free, it scans with latest signatures, and you dont have to install it, and its freeeee hehe

    None. I know that probably doesnt fit here but I just wanted to state that quite alot of people I know do not have a resident av, although I do test most of them and use a few online services. I'm not saying in no way that I feel that av is not needed or recommend not using av protection, its just I dont usually.

    I am not using any right now, and the uninstall of all my avs seemed to have cured my startup problems as well. I never had an alert from them anyways, and online scans once a month is sufficient for me.

    I see you are just using ssm + firewall. I am actually toying with the idea of just running ssm or ps when my av subscriptions runs out. I never get any alerts from my av anyway. Hopefully i can master both ssm and ps before my subscription is up.

    Well, one would think having one installed 'On-Demand' for scanning of downloads would'nt be a bad idea. Wouldn't it?.

    Of course not. I don't think anyone needs reminding that no product can boast 100% detection/protection. But with freebies available with good detection rates that are capable of install for on-demand purposes, and therefore not continually taking up system resources, why not take advantage of it?. Sure there are circumstances where an AV is not needed but it only takes a hour of my neices using my computer, visiting/downloading from kids sites to see other scenarios where some form of protection needs to be in place.
