All we know that BlackSpear's Extra settings for NOD32 v2.7 are VERY usefull but it requires time to go through. Also, sometimes you're instructed to reinstall NOD32. So, if you want to save some time you may use this procedure to:

    • Install / Re-install NOD32 pre-configured (BS's Extra settings)

After following these steps, NOD32 will be configured as indicated in Extra settings for NOD32 v2.7 but you need to:

    • Put your own Username and Password in NOD32 Update module.
NOTE: You don't need a username or password with the Trial version.

PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Me or Computalleres de Nicaragua assumes no responsibility for ANY problem that may result from your use of these steps or any file you download.

STEP 1. Download NOD32 installer (from Eset website).

    STEP 2. De-compress the installer.

In Windows XP, right click on NOD32 installer and choose "Extract files..." - put the content on a new folder.

You could use any other unzip tool, like 7-zip (freeware).

STEP 3. In that folder, unzip nod32config_en.zip (2.2 kb) containing: config.xml and install.bat

NOTE: These files are created and hosted by Computalleres de Nicaragua - a NOD32 Reseller.

Now, you will have a directory as in the image

STEP 4. Double-click on install.bat to begin the installation process...

wait for the installer to finish. System will restart automatically. You're done !!

Congratulations !!! you have configured NOD32 in no time using BS's Extra settings.

    PLEASE REMEMBER:
    • Put your own Username and Password in the NOD32 Update module as HERE.
NOTE: After you write your Username and Password, click OK button to finish as you already have the rest configured.
    • You may need to change the IMON Client Compatibility.
    • Configure Sheduler / Planner if you want to add a Schudeled Task

Aditional info about files used in this procedure.

    NOD32 installer
    Provided by ESET Software.

    nod32config_en.zip
    It contains the following files:
    • config.xml - held the configuration that will be taken by NOD32.
    • install.bat - a batch file to start install process.

      This file is using:
/forceold - will install over the top of an existing version of NOD32
/silentmode - so there's no user intervention in the install proc...
/reboot - means in /silentmode, no prompt to restart the machine.
/instmfc - so Microsoft Foundation Class installation will be switched on automatically.
/cfg=config.xml - configuration file that will be implemented on NOD32.

Just save the xml file as nod32.xml to the setup folder and run setup.exe. The settings will be taken automatically and you will be prompted for the user/pass during installation.

Nice thing! Thanks for the sharing of it. A bit of a pity: the mi perfil instead of my profile in the English version... But it was easy to change the xml file and do it all over again. No more than one minute of work now! Great add on!

Would you clarify for the Non-Experts that the Config Editor xml file likely relates only to the NT/2000/2003/XP users as would the same grouping the NOD32 DnLoad package relates to. That makes this unusable for the rest of us. Correct? This is a nice tool. Thanks.

this .xml held the configuration that will be taken by NOD32 (during install). So, it works for NOD32 v2 (9x/ME/NT/2000/2003/XP)

    xTiNcTion,

Am very appreciative of you making this shortcut for us.

--> Have found what appears to be two Blackspear extra settings that are not enacted by the shortcut program:

EMON / Setup /Scanner Extensions / Scan extensionless files
[It should have placed a check mark in ''Scan extensionless files'' but it did not]

EMON / Setup / Logs / Log all files
[It should have placed a check mark in ''Log all files'' but it did not]

Have uninstalled NOD32 and repeated the install with the shortcut program and the apparent errors repeated.

Anyone else aware of this happening?

    my pleasure :)

i uploaded a new .xml with "Log all files" checked. As per "extensionless files" please let me check but you don't have to worry as EMON/AMON will "SCAN ALL FILES".

Very nice.... hopefully this will become a sticky thread for those who need a quicker and easier route to applying these settings.

Re: Installing NOD32 with BS Extra settings - in no time

This won't work if NOD32 is already installed, will it? I have to uninstall it first and then delete the Eset folder and then reinstall? That's what I did, and it worked. Now I need to customize my settings.

    Registry Import/Export

There isn't really a way to save my settings as NOD32 v2.5 Standard has no "export" or "save settings" feature. Someone said you can export HKLM\Software\Eset\Nod\CurrentVersion\Modules, and that I should not export any other folder in HKLM\Software\Eset\Nod\CurrentVersion\ except for Modules. Is this correct? Would this be an alternative way to export/import my settings?

Could someone write me a custom config.xml and email it to me?

I don't use all of Blackspear's settings either, so how do I modify config.xml to these settings? It needs to have what the xTiNcTion's config.xml has but with these changes.

    AMON
    - Prohibit access and show window with alert options
    - Allow manual stopping
    EMON
    - Scanner > Extensions > Scan all files
    - Scanner > Extensions > Scan extensionless files
    - Notifications > Append to received and read email > To infected email only
    - Notifications > Append to outgoing email > To infected email only
    IMON
    - POP3 > Append tag messages to email > To infected email only
    - HTTP > When a threat from the Internet is detected > Display warning window with action selected
    - Miscellaneous > Log intrusion attempts to the virus log
    NOD32
    - On-Demand Scanner > [My Profile] > Setup > Logging > Wrap Log
    - On-Demand Scanner > [My Profile] > Setup > Logging > Maximum size 50000 KB
    - On-Demand Scanner > [My Profile] > Setup > Advanced > Send alerts with detailed information
    - On-Demand Scanner > [My Profile] > Setup > Advanced > Send notification on errors
    PROFILES
    - Log size on ALL profiles: 50000 KB
    - Wrap log on ALL profiles

See more info about profiles below.

It's a shame that My Profile cannot be assigned to In-Depth Analysis, Local, and NOD32 at the same time.

    - Because there are radio buttons instead of check boxes, you can only choose one option instead of two, three or four. I hope in NOD32 v3, we will not have this limitation. Some people may like to use My Profile for all four profiles, five including the context menu.
    - At least there is a check box now to use My Profile for the context menu.

In-Depth Analysis and Local profiles need to be EXACTLY the same as My Profile, except for this:

In-Depth Analysis: "Use this profile when launching NOD32 from the Control Center > In-Depth Analysis"
Local: "Use this profile when launching NOD32 from the Control Center > Local"
My Profile: "Use this profile when launching NOD32 from the Control Center > NOD32" (on-demand manual scanner)

The Diskette profile must have different options, because I have several false positives and files likely to trigger alerts saved on disks (boot sector, bios, and cmos software; PassView, etc.).

    - In Actions, everything must be set to Prompt and Copy to Quarantine.
    - In Setup, everything should be checked except for List all files and Email.
    - Log size should be 50000 KB, as in all other profiles.

Re: Installing NOD32 with BS Extra settings - in no time

Some resellers and/or partners do offer an entirely pre-configured installer for NOD32 with Blackspear's settings (you don't have to extract anything or add any files). I have a link to one such pre-configured install file, but its only for NOD32-AV customers. ;)

Just a word of appreciation to xTiNcTion (and others) for their work in compiling this config file. I finally got up enough nerve to try it and it works beautifully. It was really a nice thing for them to do for us Nod users. :)
