Having many problems, need help

Hello all.
Basically, i've been getting pop-ups that my popup blockers doesn't block, so they are coming from within my computer. Some of the popups are the notorious winfixer, along with other things more recently. Also, sometimes my taskbar (the small bar at the bottom of the screen) disappears for about 10 seconds, and then comes back, which is quite strange. Also, sometimes when switching between windows on the internet, they become inactive, and no amount of clicking on a window does anything for 20-30 seconds.
I have run Ad-Aware, the latest version, Spybot, and even Spyware Blaster, and all have detected nothing on my system. I can't seem to find where the problems are originating.
I am running on Windows XP, with SP 2, on quite a competant computer. Can anyone help me in solving my strange problems, either by pointing me to a comprehensive guide, or by posting an answer. I have no problem posting a HijackThis log, if necessary.

Your issue would be best looked at with HJT, unfortunately we no longer provide that service as per this announcement. Your best bet would be to post a log @ Castle Cops - Be sure to read their guidelines before posting.

Last I heard ADWARE will clean winfixer.


Have you cleaned your temp folder and cache ? How is your RAM ?


You may also want to do a SCANDISK..........and then defrag..........

 

A Hijackthis log is probably a good idea.

As for why your windows take a while to open up, it may be that some process is using all your CPU up. If that's the case, then Process Explorer from Sysinternals (it's free) will be able to tell you which process it is.

As for the popups, if you don't want to do a Hijackthis log just yet, there's plenty of other free scanners etc for you to try first

Beef- I'm not sure really, i've used it many times, on its deepest scan setting, and i'm still getting winfixer popups. I have cleaned my cache, etc. My ram should be fine, I have 1gig, which I got about 9 months ago or so.

Its no un-common for many of those so-called pop-up blockers to do a very poor job.

Have you tryed going into Safe Mode an scanning with Adaware?

**HiJackThis** is what I would suggest....if read properly you may need to use other Tools for complete removal but the job would be complete.....of course this depends on who helps you with HiJackThis...one good website has already been suggested an you couls also try www.forums.subratam.org

None of the usual tools (Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Anti-virus) and I mean NONE will clean off Winfixer once infected.

The only method that I found that actually works is HERE it uses a specialist tool developed for its removal. Before using this tool I did battle with this mongrel for 5 hours... I WON! Many thanks go to the developer and staff here at Wilders for their help

Does anyone know how to remove winfixer outside of safe mode?

You can try following the link in the post above, and run the tool while in normal mode, this should kill the process enough to get you into "Safe Mode" and then fully remove the nasty.
