    Laurence Binyon, For the Fallen (21st September, 1914)

    With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
    England mourns for her dead across the sea.
    Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
    Fallen in the cause of the free.

    Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
    Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
    There is a music in the midst of desolation
    And a glory that shines upon our tears.

    They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
    Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
    They were staunch to the end against odds uncountered:
    They fell with their faces to the foe.

    They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
    Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
    At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

    They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
    They sit no more at familiar tables at home;
    They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
    They sleep beyond England's foam.

    But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
    Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
    To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
    As the stars are known to the Night;

    As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
    Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
    As the stars are starry in the time of our darkness,
    To the end, to the end they remain.

    "We Shall Remember Them"

    As we all know from the past, and have read here, the resolve of the British is unwavering.

    I'm sure it will be no different this time. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families effected by this despicable act.

    Terrorism and or Extremism will not win the day.

    I feel so sorry for the people of London, and all of England as they were victims of this cowardly attack. The people of England have shown their resolve in the past and I am sure that they will rise to the task again. God bless you all.

    Very well said Uguel, and that is exactly what they are doing. The thing I fear is that someday, someone is going to get so sick of their attacks, they will unleash the ultimate in retaliation, then Heaven help us all.

    One can only hope so. In various forums today, I have seen people of a certain political ideology practically rejoice at today's events....as though it is a vindication that the war on terrorism is wrong. This only proves to me that those united against terrorism are actually doing the RIGHT thing......

    This was like watching your best friend be physically beaten by invisible bully. And there seem to be nothing you could do. :mad: :mad:

    This type of cowardly attack on citizens of a country must be dealt with swiftly and with little mercy. :(

    Time to close ranks again.

    Thanks

    I don't know what to say.....this was very sad. Its sad that I hear about terrorist bombs blowing up and killing innocent people all the time.

    There's just no understanding what these people think.....and the hatred ..and the uncaring thats in their hearts.

    My heart breaks for everyone who was effected by this terrible act and all the terrible acts by these very sick people.

    Its asked in another thread....what scares you most......well, this is what scares me most. It scares me that the world seems to be getting more dangerous each year. It scares me that I get used to hearing about terrorist attacks on the news. It scares me that if things don't get better....my children will have to live with this same fear in their lives. It scares me that my little boy might choose to help fight this fight in his future and might end up being one of the victims because of it.

    As much as everyones says, "we can't let them think they've won" how can you not walk around worried that something might happen at any given time.

    Sending prayers and good thoughts to all the people in the U.K., especially the families of those who got caught in the middle of these mindless acts.

    To call it 'terror-ism' -negates the strength of the people who are going through this time with their heads held high and their stalwart spirits unbroken.

    It is cowardice pure and simple.....

    very sad.......and scarey.

    Ya know, I was going to post..."very unnerving"
    but, the definition of that is
    "to deprive of courage, strength, and determination."

    Even after everything that has happened......I don't think they done that.
