There are no limitations but the detection rate is weaker, I see. :D

Yes, it's weaker, and I'm trying to get that message to the developers of BitDefender Antivirus Free.
The test was done while the computer had a very good and reliable Internet connection.

Bitdefender Free is not as light as expected, well done Panda and Avast. :thumb:

This thread is about Bitdefender Antivirus Free. Please keep it so or make a new thread if you want to discuss memory usage of other security solutions.

To be on topic; Bitdefender Antivirus Free is very light, even though Raymond.cc indiciates the opposite. The test is only relevant if you have about 1 GB of RAM. If you have more, then it won't matter much how much memory a security solution uses. Usually it's about scan algorithms and how much emulation that is done that affect system performance.

I haven't had one problem with BD Free except for that patch that I had mistaken for the new version update. I'm anxious.

When I read this line "Although Bitdefender’s memory did fluctuate a lot, on average it still consumes a lot of memory for a program with virtually no features or options."

The virtually no features part is pretty comical to say the least.

 I thought it'd been pretty well established by now that on-demand scans of folders containing malware are not an accurate representation of an AV's effectiveness.

I'm very glad to see subj updated to not delete files silently.

But why add a malware sample to my system and quarantine it - only to show your tool works!?

How do you know it is not from your system, is it labeled "Sample" or something.

BD Free doesn't "add a malware sample". o_O

It IS from his system, BD wouldn't do that, as DBone mentions above. That's absurd.. ;)

Tested this out on my netbook, only thing detected by it was that one AV test file, nothing else I threw at it got caught. I was quite disappointed.

Were you connected to the internet? Your results differ a lot from the average experience.

  20. True Ice, at least as comical is measuring an AV's heavyness in terms of memory usage in stead of disk I/O and CPU spikes? So Bitdefender users, never mind this 'test'. Data copy time, application start delay and media streaming hickups are by far the best indicators for system impact of a program.

This thread is getting awfully quiet. Any news or gossip yet about the new, long awaited version?
