Nope, Europe here, had the same problem when the thread started, but now it's fixed, the update is working.

I think so too. Because 7679 still won't download when I try to update manually, nothing happens.

Edit: I pushed the update button five times in a row and finally 7679 got downloaded at normal speed.

You need to start it manually a couple of times like 5-10.

Updated ess on 2 computers, downloaded different size updates?!? (same version of ess, same previous signature database)

Yes it finally started to download after I pushed the update button 5 times in a row.

    @FanJ
Yes I wonder what that update (screenshot) is all about :)

I just received the 7679 (20121110) update, so it looks like they sorted out whatever was going wrong.

If you don't get the update automatically, you might try a manual update.

    Total: 56 (1 IRC, 1 JS, 1 MSIL, 53 Win32)

    NOD32 - v.7678 (November 9, 2012)
    Total: 25 (1 Java, 1 MSIL, 23 Win32)

    NOD32 - v.7678 (November 10, 2012)
    Total: 84 (2 JS, 1 MSIL, 80 Win32, 1 Win64)

    Taken from here: http://go.eset.com/us/threat-center/threatsense-updates/

Note 7678 released two times....wonder if that's why the update process didn't work well today :doubt:

    Me too, dear SweX.
I wished that I remembered me whether that strange character | is normal in that file, but alas I don't. I'm getting old ;)

I hope that someone from ESET comes here to their official Support Forum to explain things... :doubt:

A/V defs 7679 took a while to fetch from the update server, presumably due to sheer size ? Clearing the update cache repeatedly, fixed the issue.

The only problem was that an update of the same number was released twice. As a result, every user downloaded about 1,4 MB file instead of a few KB. Other than that, there was no problem in terms of protection or detection capabilities that happens when vendors mess updates.

I'm one of them (downloaded 4 MB file. It was really slow that time). Do you mean that users don't need to delete this large update file(4MB) or clear update cache?

Don't know which update file you're referring to but definitely there's no need to delete any files or do anything else after the weekend's update. There were no problems with update files that would cause any issues on users' side, it's simply that the update was of the size that would have been downloaded by NOD32 v2 if it was still supported.

    Hmm, 1,4 MB ...

As you can see in reply # 15 it was trying to download em002_32_|1.nup with size 41125 kB (which is about 40 MB). That one failed.

As you can see in reply # 29 it finally succesfully downloaded em002_32_|0.nup with size 41130 kB (which is about 40 MB). That one gave me defs 7679.

Could you tell more about the difference in size between what you said and what I saw happening, and about the name of those files with that character | in it (I don't know whether that character is normal in that file-name)?

    Thank you.

I thought that I asked a question about the fact that Marcos posted that the size was 1,4 MB and that I noticed a file of size about 40 MB (with proof of it). That difference looks to me significant enough to get a clear answer and explanation from ESET. So I politely ask ESET to answer it.

The only "special" update released during the weekend was the larger 1,4 MB one. Dozens of MB wouldn't have been downloaded unless necessary to build the engine from scratch (e.g. when switching between pre-release, release or delayed updates or if update cache was cleared and the existing engine had to be build from scratch for some reason. If your ESS keeps downloading too much data, we can ask for further logs that might shed more light into it.

    Marcos, thank you! :thumb:

Your "if update cache was cleared" must be the explanation, I guess. Indeed, I cleared the update cache (and ran CCleaner and rebooted) after the initial update got stuck and was finally aborted by me and I disconnected internet.
(PS: since I got defs 7679, the size of the updates are back to normal).

    Mystery solved :)

    Hello Marcos,

I had also the issue with the large download failed to download. But I didn't cleared my update cache or enabled pre-release updates. Or does Eset clears it's update cache automatically?

    Regards,
    Niels
