okay so to respond tomy own post since i cant edit it for some reason, not sure why but the beta took a bit to "settle" in i guess because ram usage is way down from when i posted to right around 55mb or so and almost zero cpu being used. also browsing is great again as it was with the 2012 version. so for those who decide to install the 2013 version (remember it may change in the final release) i have tested it on 2 different systems and it seems it takes a bit for it to settle itself down. but after a couple hours all is GREAT. the only thing so far i dont like are the "extras" now shown in the gui as i said, personally i REALLY like the previous gui and am glad they didnt go nuts with a crazy makeover like some did (NOT knocking panda here but a perfect example of a gui i honestly just really dont like the way it looks in the 2013 version).

so yeah still a avira fan at this point just really wish av companies would allow peoplelike myself and others who do not want certain things turned on in the suite to turn them off without a big red x or red colored switch and also to remove unwanted things from the gui even if they are still there just to be able to not have them shown in the opening screen would be awesome. kinds like how a browser or like foxit reader allows you to remove things from the toolbars ot something like that.

overall liking it i have yet to see anything from the cloud and have been throwing a bunch of stuff at it and i did set it to ask me before sending over the cloud but i have not seen anything pop up yet.

thanks and keep up the work guys you may have a full convert over soon...

I don't think you've been fair in your judgement: do you really consider Avira's new cloud protection a minor change?

Don't be too hard on trjam....his love of Avira goes way back and I assure you he isn't addicted to MSE. He gives all the programs a good run! The only thing I can figure out is that he was a Green Bay Packer fan and after last night, life is difficult!:D

Did we get an answer on whether the large nag screen is still in the free version?

I have a free version on one of my computers which has updated 5 minutes ago, and no nag screen. Consider that it might be geographical, not necessarily happening everywhere.

Maybe it's time to try Avira again. :D Are the update servers for the free version still crippled? :doubt:

    Yes.
For those interested, if you go to Scheduler and use "Insert new job" (the buttons at the top) and then, in the second window, choose "update job" you can create as many updates as you want.

    Still looking good I hope?

I normally beta test, but have been swamped at work and home so passed it up.

    Nag screen = No deal

I don't see why it would be so bad for them to make it similar to competitors'

I was hoping for a renewed UI, particularly all those grey buttons.
    I miss Avira 9...

So they finally lowered the update interval. It was about time they did this. 24 hour update cycles are idiotic for a year 2012, yet some still use it.

Yes, I'm beta testing the Internet Security version whose UI is like the one trjam posted above but with all modules enabled of course..

I always liked the malware detection that Avira provides which is second to none if you ask me. Pair this with its minimalist and light UI then you have the best AV software on the planet.

Avira 2013 range is out. We're busy working on the mini-reviews now, but the Avira website is updated, including the Free version.

I've downloaded the 2013 Premium version a few hours ago and so far my computer speed hasn't been visibly affected (Vista32 with everything enabled except for the mail guard). ProActiv and Protection Cloud are under the heading "General/Advanced Protection".

Avira asked to remove MBAM for possible conflicts even though its active guard was disabled (version 2012 didn't complain about MBAM). Probably it'll be okay to install it after Avira, but I'd rather wait for the time being, MBAM is not absolutely necessary with my setup.

My first impression is positive considering the problems that we had with previous versions when first announced.
