I vote for qBittorrent too. Been using it for years (ever since uTorrent went commercial ) a bit paranoid as I am I feel open source is "safer"

 

I'd go for qBittorrent, or µTorrent 2.2.1 Build 25302 - the last in the version 2 line.

 

Still use utorrent 2.0.4. Works fine.

 

I use v3.1.3 and get absolutely no ads. You can turn off showing featured content right in the options menu.

 

Using an old version with known & unknown security flaws is not a good idea. It is also lacking in modern technologies such as PEX, uTP and others.

I'd suggest switching to another client, several have been suggested in this thread. I personally use Transmission on Linux, a kind soul has compiled it for Windows here.

While it supports PEX and uTP (as it should) it also has a unique and handy feature. You can subscribe to a peer block list such as bluetack level 1 directly in the client, and it can auto update the list. Sort of like a built in ad-block for peers that may be malicious/belong to anti-p2p organizations.

 

Client block lists are useless. You can still collect IP information with a blocked IP from the swarm. All the block lists do successfully is slow down your speeds by blocking "anti-p2p". One list blocks over 3/4 of the entire IPv4 IP addresses available. They block soccer companies, churches, universities, etc. Get out your tinfoil hat.

 

Calm down your nonsense preaching dear and re-read what I said, specifically the part about malicious clients, then read what the blocklist actually targets. Now learn something: Spamming clients with invalid data is a legit way for organizations to try and disable swarms, this method prevents making connections to such clients thereby boosting the swarms strengths against such attacks, which were demonstrated quite recently.

There is no "slowdown" unless you actually think someone in an anti-p2p organization is going to be seeding a torrent with legitimate purposes. If anything, this will actually speed up the locating of legitimate and useful seeds by skipping the useless ones.

 

I did. I responded to directly what you said that was uniformed nonsense. You said anti p2p, the list description says anti-p2p. Again this does absolutely nothing by blocking those clients. They can still see your IP address from the swarm, they are false security. As soon as I have access to Demonoid forums Ill have an article on how useless block lists are especially the ones contained in PeerBlock.

 

You're changing the debate to suit yourself instead of reading my post. I haven't mentioned privacy once so I'm not sure why you're talking about hiding your IP address.

 

Peer block lists as a whole are useless. Not so sure whats so hard to understand about that. They do not do anything for you other than block legitimate seeders. They dont speed up uTorrent connections at all.

 

I'm not going to bother responding to you until you read my post and learn instead of blabbering about nonsense I didn't even talk about like hiding IP addresses.

Doesnt mean anything and definitely not the first time. Many believe its a ploy for the owner to pay for court fees and bring it back up in another location. It was previously down for 6 months and came back.
