Test makes it look faster, but remember folks, it's not all about the scanning speed.

You also have to look at how thorough the scan is - what's being scanned, how deep the files are being scanned (unpacking), level of detection and factors like usage of system resources etc.

I'm not saying DrWeb's beta scanner makes sacrifices in any of the above, just a point to bare in mind when looking at or comparing scan speed/time either with the same AV or between other AVs.

Does this mean that the new engine and database are the reasons for the significant scan speed increase that I saw?

Yes, it has a meaning. When in CureIt! will be implemented multi-threaded scanner the scan speed will be increased even more in the best way. Deceleration will be only when checking the drivers (*.sys files), memory and BIOS.

You must ensure that the DrWeb LiveCD uses actual core and base.

If the virus databases is v.7.0 and then and the core (Virus-Finding Engine)
is so true in DrWeb LiveCd and DrWeb LiveUSB.
These products are based on Linux

Wouldn't the latest Dr.Web Live CD ISO download have the version 7.0 databases and core? The one that I ran the scan speed test was dated "2011/12/14 17:49".

Should I wait a day or two and then download and try the latest Dr.Web Live CD ISO at that time?

Update Dr.Web CureIt!: Reinforced and automatic scan modes

    December 26, 2011

The company "Doctor Web" - a Russian developer of IT security - reports the updating of paid and free versions of the utility Dr.Web CureIt!. Within the update function of collecting and sending impersonal statistics in an analytical laboratory, "Dr. Web". In addition, abolished the need to complete the questionnaire before downloading curing utility.

Now many users Dr.Web CureIt! from around the world will take part in the collection of useful statistical information. This will help the company "Doctor Web" to analyze the global situation and the virus more quickly to improve the use of Dr.Web algorithms for detecting and curing. Note that the data sent to the analytical laboratory, "Dr. Web", exclude information that would identify the user - are sent purely statistical data on the scan results and general information about software and hardware PC. This feature is always included in the free version of the utility, but not relevant for all the language localizations: the presence of function, the user learns from an appropriate warning. Members paid version may refuse to transfer statistics.

In addition, launch free version of Dr.Web CureIt! is now possible only under an administrator account. Paid version of the utility is able to work under other accounts.

Also in the paid version of Dr.Web CureIt! the opportunity to scan in full automatic mode: When you run from the command line with the key / go scanner immediately starts checking, without requiring the user taking any action. In addition, users of the paid version became available enhanced scan mode, previously tested in the free version and is designed to counter the Trojans-blocker.

Both versions of the utility Dr.Web CureIt! available on the website, "Dr. Web".

Free Version: Does this mean that I will still be able to scan the whole PC (all user accounts) as long as I am logged in as a User with Full Admin Rights?

Is this the feature previously knows as EPM (Enhanced Protection Mode)? Does this mean that the Free Version no longer has EPM?

I did the scan speed test again mainly to see if the Dr.Web Live CD scan time had dropped significantly from the previous Dr.Web Live CD scan speed test.

    Dr.Web Cureit Settings for Scans:

    EPM (Enhance Protection Mode)
    All Actions: Report Only
    NO Prompt for action
    Custom Scan: C:
Scans were NOT performed in SAFE MODE.

    Today’s Results:

    Dr.Web Cureit
    2011-12-29 (05:20) 2481829
    Files Scanned: 73,669
    Scan Time: 35:01
    Reported Scan Speed: 661 KB/s

    Dr.Web Live CD
    Settings for Scans:
    All Actions: Report Only
    Custom Scan: C:

    2011/12/28 18:17
    Objects Scanned: 141,556
    Scan Time: 44:08

    Previous Results:

    Dr.Web Cureit
    2011-12-15 (07:10) 2441863
    Files Scanned: 73,745
    Scan Time: 35:49
    Reported Scan Speed: 733 KB/s

    Dr.Web Live CD
    Settings for Scans:
    All Actions: Report Only
    Custom Scan: C:

    2011/12/14 17:49
    Objects Scanned: 137,718
    Scan Time: 1:37:58

    Dr.Web Live CD ISO File Size Change: 186.8 MB -> 177.7 MB (2011/12/28 -> 2011/12/15)

Therefore, the relative scan speed increase is very similar to what I found for Dr.Web CureIt: ~2X
