Announcement: Webroot (including Prevx) Antivirus Private Beta

I am very excited to announce that we're starting a private beta of Webroot Antivirus - the combined effort from the Prevx and Webroot teams which we believe will reshape the security industry. Our goal is to build the best security possible - we've taken everything we've learned from Prevx 3.0 and Webroot Internet Security 2011 and have built a brand new product set that is a fraction of the size and many times the efficiency of any product on the market today. This beta is based off of the original plans for Prevx 4.0 and the combined strategy of both Webroot and Prevx to leverage the cloud to protect users with the next generation of security software.

This beta phase is on a first-come-first-serve basis. We're opening it up initially to a small group of users and will then close it so sign up fast There will be another round of beta testing after and we'll be introducing new features along the way. The GUI colour scheme is a little hard on the eyes. Break out the sunglasses.

 

Does this have to be a combined suite? No more companion AM? Any free version?

Very cool but I'm confused. It says Webroot with Prevx, but there will still be a standalone Prevx right?

Even alongside the mighty Online Armor Firewall?? Will it be a full blown firewall eliminating the need for other Firewalls??...

 

Just signed up for beta. But I got a few questions:

1. Will the existing Prevx/Webroot licenses work with this version or will there be a separate system?

2. Are the current Prevx products going to be continued under the brand name of Prevx or Webroot? If there are a separate line for future Prevx products is it possible to migrate the current licenses when a final product is released?

3. There were a lot discussions about stuffs those were supposed to be fixed in Prevx 4.0, i.e. support for FF 4. What is the current policy regarding the situation? Does the SecureAnywhere Beta have components like SafeOnline?

4. Is it possible to use it alongside Prevx 3.0?

5. There were a lot of times it was said Prevx 4.0 would have 1/10th size and would use much less resources than the current 3.0 product. Does the same apply to SecureAnywhere Beta?

6. Will there be a Mac/Linux version of this?

7. Are there any known conflicts with any product?

8. Does the "Send Feedback" button allows the user to directly contact support from the program, or it is opened via browser?

9. Does the firewall offers protections against different network attacks, e.g. port scan etc or is it just a allow/block thing? Does it have any effect on Windows Firewall?

And if possible some more screenshots will help much, I would like to see especially the "System Tools" it offers. I agree with The Hammer, the GUI color is painful for my eyes, and "up-to-the-second protection" is not catchy for marketing I think.

Is the behavior blocker fully working if the computer is offline?

It is very logic that Webroot has their influence on how the development of this product went. Influence on both the user experience and the technology behind it. However as far as I can see, the influence of Webroot on the user experience, seems to be how I, and others, expected it to be. I have not been able to test the product yet, but when the opportunity arises, I will surely do. I have subscribed, but I guess I am just a tad too late.

I have got some questions/comments:

1. Is the firewall included in this product PrivateFirewall like in the other Webroot products? Or is it a brand new cloud-based firewall?
2. What features are located under the "System Tools" tab?
3. When you register a domain webrootcloudav.com it seems more logic to name the product Webroot Cloud Antivirus instead of Webroot SecuryAnywhere. It would also be logic to be a direct competitor of Panda Cloud Antivirus with that domain name. In my opinion Webroot SecuryAnywhere is not a great name.
4. I am not a huge fan of the "shields approach" where you name certain technologies (to protect a certain infection vector) as a "shield". And I especially don't like the "Core System Shield" name.

Finally!....Configurability!

Looking good so far, I think Ive scanned roughly 640,000 files since last night.

The way you have it configured to work with the machine be it, the machine is under High CPU or Low Disk Space....gotta give that one 2 thumbs up so far mister.
